(from a technical standpoint, I don't know of anything that the USP-1 does "better" than the preamp section of the DC-1) Umm, cough, cough!... The USP-1 "does" HT-Bypass, which the DC-1 doesn't do at all... Shouldn't that count for something, at least?

I really, really love the sound of my DC-1, but there is one thing that really, really needs to be fixed about it: i.e. The remote... The remotes of all my other Emo Units are built like tanks, and work flawlessly... So what happened with this otherwise almost perfectly engineered little DAC?... You would think someone was too busy trying to perfect the DAC to think of the remote... Sooo something has got to give here, although I do not think we need to wait for a DC-2 for a remote to be fixed, right? Sorry guys! This sucks... Today, my DC-1's remote stopped working, and I'm cranky! I replaced the batteries with new ones. and it still won't work... And the darn thing is not even 2 weeks old yet... Did they change the remote for the DC-1? Mine is "built like a tank," looks gorgeous and it works fine. I'm sorry to hear yours doesn't work but understandably some items are going to need repairs. I've had Emo gear I've had to send back for repair. Those pics you posted make it look like the DC-1 remote is a piece of flimsy plastic but unless the newer production is different from the first units, the remote is actually a solid metal unit.

If you are purely objective (say you were a Vulcan) there should be no need for another DAC, because the science behind digital to analog signal conversion has been known for decades now and the circuit itself is a commodity. Any instrument that can be devised to measure electrical signals will always exceed the capabilities of the human ear and cannot in theory detect any measurable differences. But because we are not Vulcans there is an entire industry of trying to perfect the immeasurable and one that relies on subjective measures of human perception. Some even refer to that as "Faith based audio". It will continue because it is a fun hobby to boot and it is the pursuit that matters. Also, unlike a "recovering audioholic, I am a "recovering scientist", in that you sometimes realize that some of the most dogmatic people are actually those trained as scientists. For those who don't hear any weaknesses in the performance of the Stealth DC-1 DAC, will the Stealth DC-2 be a sly attempt to just pry more money out of your wallets, or might Emotiva actually think that there are some performance areas that can be improved on? If the former, why do you buy Emotiva products? If the latter, then why don't YOU hear the areas where performance could be improved with the DC-1? I'm neither making statements about the DAC nor expressing any opinions. I'm asking a reasonable question. Have you a reasonable answer?

I think the discussion was focused on strictly 2ch for music, not even 2.1. I also thought it was about 2 channel music, but the expressions "from a technical standpoint" and "anything" did introduce some ambiguity, and then some hyperbole, which in turn brought on the possibility of being blind-sided...etcetera, etcetera, etcetera... I do not want this discussion to veer off into semantics, though... So let us agree it is about 2-channel music and get on with it...

Actually, the DC-1's remote is still built like a tank, and that is what makes it all the more frustrating that it will stop working after less than two weeks... The image was just meant to express my crankiness, with a little melodrama thrown in to spice it all up... The remote under the hammer is clearly not the DC-1's remote... oh, and for that matter, neither is the one the dog is eating...

Same here. The DC-1's form factor is exactly what I was looking for along with the loads of features it had in that small package. The DC-1 on top of 11.6 TB of storage and a Shuttle xPC with the soda can and Airmotiv 5 there for size reference.

I just returned my DC-1 and exchanged it for another USP-1. Need that bass management and HT bypass. The DC-1 sounded awesome and I loved the look but I like the extra thump from the sub with music and I had to make too many changes switching from music to movies.
