I'm going to buy a UMIK-1 I recommend buying it from Cross Spectrum as they provide 3 calibration files at 0, 45 and 90 degrees. Dave.

Does the UMIK-1 plug into a computer or another devise? Help please, I learning but do not have an Emo AVR. Thanks

I recommend buying it from Cross Spectrum as they provide 3 calibration files at 0, 45 and 90 degrees. The problem is that i'm from Europe, and getting it from Cross Spectrum, would add several taxes, almost doubling the price Do you know any alternatives in Europe?

Behringer ECM-8000, Monacor ECM-40 - both need a soundcard with 48V or a preamp.
There is also a kit from XTZ, which is good. But all those variants are also more expensive.
I personally use a ECM-40 with a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2.

^ I think the problem is that Herb got a batch of mics that had quality problems. So he was probably loosing money. My ECM-8000 works just fine, so does my EMM-6.

MaterialsMineral Wool - (< 5kpa) - 135cm x 60cm x 60cm (due to being a little compressed") - 21m2 of mineral wool RockWool - 150kg/m2 - 120cm x 100cm x 16cm - 4.8m2 of Rockwool PlacementAs you can see by the pictures, the placement was not ideal P1 - Mineral WoolP1 - RockWoolP2 - Mineral WoolP2 RockWoolAll SPL P1All SPL P2Results position P1Mineral Wool - No positive effect, it even induces a null on 120Hz RockWool - A 12db's effect on the null on 92Hz Results position P2Mineral Wool - None RockWool - None ConclusionsHonestly, I am quite disappointed with the results. The effect of the Mineral Wool was virtually nil. Even taking into account that the placement wasnt the ideal (i should have simulated a corner superchunk) it had no effect. In the case of rockwool, there was a positive effect on the null of 92Hz. Given the placement was far from ideal, I do not know if i can conclude anything from this tests ...

^ You didn't want to listen... You need a lot more mineral wool to see a significant effect. Did you play with the calculator I've linked in emotivalounge.proboards.com/post/595953/threadThe effect of absorption is best seen in waterfall plots.

Yes, i've selected the materials based on this study: www.gearslutz.com/board/bass-traps-acoustic-panels-foam-etc/863001-correct-afr-density-thickness-superchuncks-corner-traps-relation.htmlI've used the calculator to compare the "air flow resistivity" for 80cm of material: Comparative between 500, 1000, 1500 and 3000 Pa.s/m2 materials, for 800mm thickness The lowest value i've found for "air flow resistivity", was < 5kpa, and i've used 21m2 of mineral wool, it would have allowed to build a superchunk of aprox. 120cm height, and 67cm wide. For some reason, i cant overlay the waterfall plots on rew, i will have to try in another computer.

Slightly OT, do both the EMM6 and Behringer ECM8000 require phantom power? I intend to use an EMu 0202 USB audio interface with REW, and it doesn't have power for condenser mics. Will outboard power supplies affect the performance of the mic? Is it sufficient to change the cal file?

^^ I think EMM6 and Behringer ECM8000 both require phantom power, thats the reason i went with the UMIK-1

I also need a mic for voice work, but USB mics don't work well for me since I can't monitor during recording. Every mic I've tried so far has latency issues. I think the EMM6 will be a good choice for both tasks.
