I've had several tube amps and preamps over the years, mostly Marantz, McIntosh and Harmon Kardon. While I no longer use tubes, there seems to be a lot of curiosity and enthusiasm in the audio community regarding them. Buying and maintaining tube equipment is expensive, especially if you just want to hear the subtle differences envelope delay and microphonics adds to the sound.
Diamond Cut Productions makes a VST plugin for J. River and Foobar2000 that will allow you to audition various tube configurations, and use them with your Emotiva equipment.
I've not personally used the VST plugin, but use their DC6 (now DC8) editing software which includes their "Virtual Valve", the software upon which the VST plugin is based. It works very well.
For more information see: www.diamondcut.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=8
(Note: I am in no way associated with Diamond Cut Productions.)

Even virtual tubes get expensive. It is a cool idea to have as a plug in. I wonder how many will throw down the money for it.

$99 for a DOWNLOAD? This technology is NOT new - It has been used in the "pro" audio world (to model various tube guitar amps) for a decade or two now. For $10, yep, I'd try it out; for $99, though, it is NOT a good or even a fair value IMHO.

Something this simple should be priced more reasonably.

No, it's not new. It was included when I bought DC5 almost a decade ago. When I upgraded to DC6 it received a few minor tweaks.
I agree that the plug-in is too expensive. According to their website they've only sold 2 units. lol
Perhaps, if you emailed them with an offer of $10 they'd send you a copy. I don't think it's been updated in quite awhile. Most of their business is from government agencies, and not audiophiles.
