Thanks @chuckienut, ohhhh Lordy - I'm impressed, that's got the itchy wallet syndrome starting again... I understand how that organ just rumbled!
I have some stock-standard Logictech noise exposers at present and have been looking for a while (used to have a wonderful set of Bostons years ago - stolen unfortunately). Space requirements are an issue even with the Airmotive4s..so going to the 5s, well......I think a new desk would also be in order... but who knows, perhaps if I'm good this year...and pigs start flying.

hi blooloo, great to hear a fellow aussie enjoying his/her xpa-100's. i have a xpa-100 on my left speaker & upa-1 on the other & both sound terrific. ( i do have the other upa-1 but running in the xpa-100 @ the time being.) these 3 amps are for my brothers 5ch theatre & i plan on getting a pair of xpa-1l's for my rig. absolutely enjoying these little beasts powering the redgum audio rgs38i floorstanders. i have around 200+ hrs on my erc-3 & its a pearler of a player & highly recommend it. my xsp-1 is really the best pre-amp i've owned & its a great match up with my erc-3 & upa-1 amps ( when there together lol! ) all the best in your future set up mate, cheers chris

Maybe at some point today I'll be able to give my first impressions of my XPA-100's. The tube preamp has finally been processed through US Customs, and has arrived and been processed through the USPS sort facility in Los Angeles. It has also arrived, and been processed through our USPS sort facility here in Las Vegas. I'm hoping that means that after two and a half months of waiting today I'll finally get my first listen. Maybe!

Hi garbulky,
I purchased a Xiang Sheng 728A. Now all three of my power configurations will have tubes. That's not to say at some point I won't decided to buy a solid state preamp. Just at this point in time I'm really liking the way tube equipment sounds. I also considered buying the Jolida JD-5T. The 728A won out partly because, (1) I'm not hung up on having a remote, even though my other two integrated amps have them. To me it seems they don't make small volume adjustments well. I most often end up getting up to manually adjust the volume anyway. (2) The price was really reasonable, and (3)it has tone controls. I'm old school I use to love being able to play around with the bass, and treble.
Last check said: Out For Delivery ! Yea !

Thanks, I hope it sounds great too. My only concern now is that it makes it to me in one piece. No damage during shipping.

Just to follow up. The preamp arrived at 12:23pm I didn't know I was busy in the Lounge writing a post. It was almost two hours later that I looked at the tracking info and discovered it had already been delivered. The mailman simply put it into one of the large parcel mail boxes. It made the trip in one piece. US Customs did cut open the box to make sure what it contained.
I got it all hooked up to the XPA-100's and started listening. My first impressions is this is a good combination. About thirty minuets into the listening session the sound started to bloom. At the volume level I used the amps just barely felt warm. The ERC-1 gets warmer than they did. The tube pre got pretty warm but no way near as hot as my other tube equipment. The sound is similar to the other equipment, but I would have to say at this point it's not quite as lush. I want to say not as much tube sound as the other gear. My other amps took a while to come in so I expect the sound could change over a short period of time. So the plan is to leave the stock tubes in for a few months. Really give them a listen. Then decide if I like what I'm hearing or if I want to roll the tubes.
I think I hear some improvement in the channel separation, it might be because they are mono blocks. I haven't pushed the volume but I can tell this thing will really play loud. In the next few days I'll move the speakers around a little bit to see how that effects the sound stage. Then in two or three weeks I'll switch over to the MMG's. I actually brought the XPA-100's for them so I'll hear how that sounds. I'll continue to listen to this configuration and I'll note any changes.

@blooloo Great review. Yep, I hear the same things. Especially: clearly hearing compressed recordings. I'm coming up to my second month with the XPA-100 and I will write an update to my observations. d1sturb3dYes, DO NOT listen to them! They'll never leave your home if you do. :-)

Just thought I add this little tidbit on the preamp. After I connected the preamp to the rest of my equipment, then listened to some music. I turned everything off watched some TV got back on line. Then I decided to read the owners manual.
In The Manual It states: The amplifier will take a considerable time to run-in before it performs at it's best. The duration varies, but under some conditions you will find that the sound continues to improve for as much as five weeks.

Cheers.

Yea - the separation may well be the mono block affect, I'll be interested to find out your views after, '5 weeks' with this combo...also extremely interested in how the MMG's sound as well - what model are they, the standard or did you go for the 'Super' with bass panel?

Thanks, No I just have the standard MMG's not the super MMG's. Even though I love my MMG's I'm not sure I would have purchase the bass panel with them even if it were available almost three and a half years ago when I brought mine. Not taking anything away from how awesome the Super MMG combo may sound. I would still buy a regular sub that I can use with a variety of speakers. If I were to invest in any more Maggies which is possible, I would go 1.7 or larger.
My plan is to take a month off from buying anything. Except the tools necessary to adjust the bias on my tube amp, and some new interconnects. Then around March I'll get serious about looking for another pair of speakers. I was originally thinking some bookshelf's with stands. But I'm keeping my options open. I'd really like to see Emotiva's new speakers before I purchase. If they are on the products page around March I could end up with something from them.
Oh yea, no thirty day return policy with the preamp. It almost took that long to arrive, just kidding, it actually took two weeks.
