Running the PS4 with HDMI and optical leaves nothing going from the UMC to the TV for video. If I could figure out a way to connect the UMC to the TV I'd be all set. Of course I'd be without HD audio but I can live with that.

I tried that and it does work flawlessly but then I lose onscreen menu and volume. Not to mention all CEC support of which is very important to me. Thanks though and in the end we shouldn't have to not use features just to make it function as it was designed. You can still use HDMI through the UMC200 for video, giving you the onscreen menu & volume, while using optical or coax for the audio. Just configure the HDMI input in the UMC menu to use HDMI for video and the digital input you select for video. This should also allow you to use CEC if you want. I agree that having to use workarounds sucks, but this one isn't bad. Chances are you already have the digital audio cable sitting around somewhere, and it only takes a couple minutes to go into the menu and configure your HDMI input to pull audio from a different input. From there it's seamless. It's still a single button press on the remote and you don't lose any features or quality. (Please note that you will lose access to lossless audio tracks, but there are no broadcasters offering lossless audio - at this point it's only coming from Bluray)

Of course I'd be without HD audio but I can live with that. I don't understand this post. PS4 --> HDMI --> UMC --> HDMI --> TV --> Optical --> What I am confused on is how to get video from the UMC-200 to the TV. If I run the PS4-->HDMI-->TV that takes care of the video problem with the UMC. Then run PS4-->Optical-->UMC and that gives me digital audio (minus lossless and can live with that) with no problem at all. The problem then is that there is no connection going back to the TV from the UMC-200, which then leaves me without on-screen display and CEC. If I could figure out a way to send a signal back to the TV from the UMC, problem solved in theory. The only way I can think of this working would be to have an HDMI going from UMC-->TV but then the PS4 and UMC would be on separate HDMI ports on the TV. Confusing I know, but that would leave me with having to switch sources on the TV to get the on-screen display. Making sense or am I missing something here?

Run HDMI AND optical between the PS4 and the UMC-200, then HDMI out to the TV.
On the UMC-200, go to Menu:Setup:Input Setup.
Whichever HDMI input you have the PS4 connected to, change the audio input to whichever optical input you have that cable connected to.
Now, when you select that HDMI input, it will pull audio from the optical input and video from the HDMI input, therefore passing the video out to your TV.

I tried that exact setup the other night and the audio is perfect but the video problem is still the same seeing that it goes through the UMC to the TV. That's why I've been trying to find a way to run video directly from PS4 to the TV and audio from PS4 to UMC via optical. Sad thing is I've been watching movies throughout the day and haven't had any issues. But that has been the case before and the problem comes back. I disabled HDCP and all Standby features of the PS4 after a suggestion on here. Guess I just wait it out and see if the problem arises again. Also, I adjusted the phase a bit on my PB-2000 back to about 90 degrees and the bass is now coming out way better. I mean to a point I didn't even know it was capable of. Until now I was not impressed with SVS and couldn't understand what all the hype was about on their subs. It never really sounded any better then my Sub-12. Obviously the bass was being canceled out due to my room. Now I'm really tinkering with speaker placement and may attempt the "sub crawl" when no one is looking, lol.

Have you tried swapping out the HDMI cables?

Of course! Not sure there is much left I haven't tried, lol. Try unplugging all sources except for the PS4. The first AVR I had with HDMI used to cut out whatever source I was viewing when my AppleTV would go to sleep. Perhaps one of your devices is interfering with the system even when it's not selected.

The PS4 is my only source. Pretty soon if it messes up again I'm just going to use the PS3 and call it a day. PS4 was major ball drop if you ask me.

Yeah, that's unfortunate. I don't play games, really, definitely not enough to upgrade from the PS3 and Xbox 360. My son uses them, but he's 8, so he's not doing anything too taxing. I have no intention of upgrading them.

I played a game once with the PS3 and have never tried one on PS4. Just found the console to be great for streaming content from a PC. Until now of course. But I'm using Plex media server with the PS4 and the interface is much like Netflix and allows me to browse my library of over 1000 movies in 5.1 and countless music albums with ease. Certainly convenient and even more so than my HTPC of which I built to dedicate to media. Back to topic though, Thanks for all your help!
