The amp looks great with the black volume knob and trim. Wish I had the ability to do that kind of conversion to add the headphone jack.
I've been using this amp with speaker taps for headphones after seeing the Head-Fi thread some time ago.

elwapp that thread was a very enjoyable read. I was very intrigued at how you modified the amp in a very sensible clearcut way. Every modification done wasn't something esoteric but for real benefits. Thanks for taking the time to show us. Also, I don't know if you noticed but what you essentially did was give the mini-x a gen 2 makeover like they did with the other XPA series amps. Some other mods you can do is install Tiffany RCA jacks which will bring it more in line with the XPR (reference) series look.
You may also be interested to know that emotiva is producing a headphone amplifier designed for professional use. Also that the DC-1 DAC has a headphone amp built that has some reasonably powerful dual headphone amps on them. I wonder if you could figure out a way to use both headphone amp circuits and combine them to get an increase in power. According to Keith the biggest limiter to this idea is that the dual headphone amps draw on the same power circuit (if I'm understanding correctly) and hence the current couldn't be doubled.

Just to clarify, this isn't mine (although I'm probably going to do these mods in the near future). It has kind of been a community effort at head-fi, where a few people have given ideas or performed a few mods. I think ben_r_ mentioned part of the inspiration for the mods was getting the look more in line with the current amplifiers, but emo doesn't sell a kit. Pretty sleek look indeed!
I didn't head about the "professional" headphone amplifier! I will definitely keep up and be interested when it comes out. I've talked quite a bit with a few head-fi members regarding the headphone out on the XDA-2, and they thought it wasn't quite in the same category as the A-100. A few spread out reviews of the stealth also indicate the headphone out isn't quite as good as the A-100, either. So, I'll be very interested to see what they come up with!

If there is enough interest we will build a dedicated headphone amp that would knock your socks off. So if you want a kick @$$ headphone amp, post it here. Lonnie

A few people compared the Lyr and the A-100 with the HE-500 and found the Emotiva to really be a step up. didn't see this post before..that is what exactly what I am going to do with the mini-x..I already bought a matte black paint lol..I am just waiting for the dc-1 so I can match them haha I personally paired it with the HE-6 and HE-500. Lots of people pair with the HE-500, and it has quickly become the go to amplifier recommended for the HE-500. Really a stellar match.

The emotiva name has quickly spread on head-fi for power hungry headphones. Plenty of interest there as well.

Absolutely! But it shouldn't be a portable model please. A standalone really high powered model designed for high impedance headphones like the sennheiser hd600 please. Preferrably with class A and balanced differential circuitry. We would also like 1/4 inch output Balanced output. No switching supplies. We don't need it to drive multiple headphones. Just one really really well

yes the a-100 grew popular because of the hard to drive headphones like he-500..that's why I bought the a-100 in the first place..for the he-500!! ..the HP amp on the xda-2 or dc-1 IMO won't drive the hifi mans aside for the he-400 i think..

Definitely put it on your "To Do List". As if you don't have enough to do. By the way, Lonnie, the XPR amps are just stellar. I couldn't be happier with them. You are an industry leader.

Nick Glad you liked the Gym rules. Just having a little fun. I actually have a few more on the list but I don't think it would be appropriate to post them. As for myself, I'm at the gym six days a week, pushing it to the limit and the guys I work out with get it. It's all the interlopers that screw things up. But I digress. Thanks for the comments and the interest. Lonnie
