I use an IPOD Classic 60GB connected via its charging dock, and an OPPO 103 via USB. Have not yet gotten wi-fi from laptop to OPPO operational yet.

Maybe I'll tag on a question here. Has anyone seen a device that will create an AirPlay stream? The idea would be to take the Zone output from a processor (like the XMC-1 but any fixed output would do), send it to this device and then choose various Airports and AppleTVs in the home. It wouldn't need a screen as you'd use an iDevice to configure and control it. I normally stream to these devices directly from my Mac mini (to also answer the OP), but it would be much more flexible to take any source the processor was playing and send it to your Airplay devices. Now that I think about it maybe the Mac mini could take an analog or digital input (via the mic in) and then use the standard Airplay output function to redirect it? This might work, but a more simple device would be nice - essentially an Airport Express in reverse. Has anyone seen anything like this? lifehacker.com/5802958/how-to-make-your-entire-home-airplay-compatibleCan't vouch for it, but it looks like he's discussing the sort of thing you're after. I checked that out and I've found a polished version that will allow the Mac mini to do what I described. Rogue Amoeba's 'Line In' is a free app that will let you redirect any one input to any one output (OSX only). So an analog or digital signal from the XMC-1 could route to the Mac's mic input and then output to either the main output, OR any ONE AirPort device. (It's actually kinda silly you need an app for this) For $25 they have 'Airfoil' that works with AirPlay devices and Airfoil (software) Devices. The Airfoil app will let you choose multiple destinations for any input – like iTunes and GarageBand do for their own content. In my case with a Mac mini as an HTPC, I can (already) play iTunes to the XMC-1 through HDMI or TOSLink, and through AirPlay to remote speakers. If I'm playing another source (say an Oppo streaming Pandora to stay with the OP), the signal goes from the XMC's digital out TOSLink to the Mac's mic in, and the Airfoil app allows me to chose my remote speakers and adjust their individual volume (like iTunes). Again like iTunes Airfoil has a remote app. They have a free trial that works for 10 minutes and then goes noisy, restarting gives another 10. Airfoil also let's you turn iOS, Android, OSX, Windows, and Linux devices into Airfoil speakers (but I didn't test that). So this is slightly complex but pretty cheap – $25 if you have an HTPC and AirPorts. A big downside is that you have to use two different apps on the Mac and remote them with two different apps. And you could use the XMC Zone analog outs instead allowing some source flexibility, but with TOSLink you could do a nice vinyl rip should that appeal (you did get an XPS-1 didn't you?). Actually this should all work on a UMC as well. I'll probably try this more completely, but I'm becoming convinced that Apple needs to make an 'AirPlay Express'; same form factor as the AirPort or AppleTV but it runs backwards - analog or digital in - AirPlay out. Sorry, this got long, had to think it through and try a few things. Edit: Rogue Amoeba Website

Boy sure if this applies, my Mac mini & jriver will let me play music to almost anything with airplay. my two Yamaha AVRs, Oppo, USB to DC-1, Apple TVs (2) anything with DNLA. Nick.

Hard drive with flac files plugged into my wifi router. DNLA files works with Oppo BDP95, and Yamaha AVR, as well as My Sonos setup. Also hard drive with flac files plugged into my Bryston media player (not streaming but similar)

I've been reading this thread to figure out what device I can use that will connect via USB between an external HDD (containing my music files [ALAC]) to my XDA-2. in other words:
HDD (music files) --> device ---> XDA-2
Obviously, a laptop would work, but I'm looking for something that would simply be a 'box' that I don't have to type on. I'm assuming something like this exists, but for some reason, I cannot put it all together in my brain. Of course, the 'box' would need to be controlled somehow to access the music files.
Sorry to be so dense (in the head).

Stream Beats: iPad Apple TV (airplay) to Peachtree or Schiit DAC to UMC-200 analog in.
Stream iTunes: Mac Mini (USB) to Peachtree or Schiit DAC to UMC-200 analog in.
Off topic: I don't like the Beats app interface but prefer their search/tagging for classical better than Google or Spotify. I miss MOG.

Other option is a small Synology raid...control iOS/android/web(pc/mac/etc) www.synology.com/en-global/products/overview/DS214playgo as big as you need...use for your pc/mac backups too ... I'm using a DS1318+ can stream into the DC-1 via USB3 at 24/192K (i don't have an XDA-1 anymore stream photos and video too Oh and it can stream to your iOS / android devices too and yr pc/mac etc, plus other DNLA devices. I also use with my ATV and APE and squeezeboxes too, Raspberry Pi and j-river and my favourite is the Oppo 105 ads a renderer.
