Brief overview: I was re-wiring my system tonight, trying to clean up the CF of wiring that I had. After straightening that out (and hours of work ), I rebooted my system... The UMC-1 triggers the amp (power light comes on), but the 5 lights for the channels don't light, and I'm getting no sound from my gear!!! It's a pretty complicated set up. It's not impossible that I wired something wrong, but I don't think I did... It just seems really strange that the amp lights, but there's no channel lights or sound! Has anyone experienced this behavior and is there a simple fix? It would really suck if my amp crapped out. It should still be under warranty and I haven't sold my Carver AV505 yet, but it doesn't have a trigger and I'd hate to have to rearrange things all over again! Any help would be greatly appreciated... Dave

I hate it when that happens. My suggestion : don't panic and recheck all your connections - that has helped me in the past. Hopefully, it's just that something was not hooked up correctly. You probably will not sleep until you find the problem.

Turn on the status LED at the back.

Turn on the status LED at the back. That won't stop the amp from working, just the status LEDs. My guess is that there has to be something wired incorrectly.

Once, (ok, maybe more than once) I wired the amps input to the preamps input. I can guarantee that will result in no sound.

Definitely check and recheck your connections. The fact that the system was working before the straightening and cleaning suggests the issue was created during that time. Maybe a cable was jiggled loose, pulled free entirely, or miswired. Go through your entire signal chain, from source to speaker, and you'll likely find it. Also, be sure your UMC-1 is receiving a signal. Maybe the issue is with a faulty connection at the back of the UMC-1 rather than with the UPA-500. The amp can't do its thing if there's no signal to work with. I'll be highly surprised if there is a genuine defect; it would be very coincidental. Rather, it's probably something simple.

Turn off the switch on the back and unplug all input and speaker connections to the UPA500. Then turn the switch back on and power it up with the switch on the front. Does it power up okay?

That was weird!! I was really tired last night, so I got up this morning and did some retuning. The switch for the status lights was on but I turned it off/on again along with the power switch on the amp and things are working fine! My only guess would be that the status switch wasn't quite on (maybe slightly in between) and that fixed it. Still doesn't really explain why it wasn't outputting sound, but I guess stranger things have happened... Glad it was just something stupid. Thanks Folks, Dave
