Besides the change in tiffany style RCA inputs, toggle switches for switching between the balanced/unbalanced inputs and the new trim pieces on the front, and maybe a few tweaks under the hood, I doubt performance, quality or sound has changed much if at all. So I'd expect the reviews on the Gen 1 XPA-5 to be no different except for what I listed above. The 4 and 8 ohm Audio Precision specs/measurements are linked below. emotiva.com/resources/media/xpa5/xpa5_gen2_4ohm.pdfemotiva.com/resources/media/xpa5/xpa5_gen2_8ohm.pdf

my main concern is i would like to see some user reviews like there was with gen1. I have owned the Gen 1 and now the Gen 2 XPA-5 amongst many other Emotiva amps and they are all very similar in sound, the Gen 2 XPA-5 is my main amplifier for my HT/2CH system and IMO performs wonderfully for both duties, one of my favorite things to do is crank up any of my music Blu-ray's whether it be NIN, Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews or even my Miles Davis Live At Montreux and they sound amazing at any volume, and the power this amp can put out is outstanding, just my 2 cents It has been awhile since I had the Gen 1 so it's impossible to comment on any differences, I doubt you would be able to tell in a blind test. I just can't emagine any multi channel system without the XPA-5 gen 1 or 2, I think there is not enough audible difference between the two to notice. I have NOT done a side by side and don't think it needs it. Plenty of pure power for almost any purpose, hence,,,,,no system should be built without one of these wonderful units. The workhorse of Emotiva's amp line-up. Sorry I can't give you a better comparison but I don't think one is really warranted.

You buy with confidence IMHO, terrific amp, loads of headroom and really delivers excellent sound stage, floor noise very low, silk gloves when needed but an awesome iron fist for dynamics and performance Don't worry, buy one!!

I have an XPA-5 Gen 2 for sale, and only because I have found that I just don't use it. Performance wise, it is as clean as can be, extremely quiet, and obviously a huge amount of power reserve. I have gone the tube amp, 2 channel route with an Emotiva USP-1 preamp. My unit is for sale on this site, and if you are interested, please PM. thanks.

I use 2 of them one for each of my active speakers using 4 of the 5 channels per side. I find them very similar to the G1's tonally and power wise. I like the better build quality and the aesthetics more than the G1. If you have the G1 then I doubt you will see much of an audible difference. I had 2 G1's several years ago but was using them in a HT setup with ERM1/ERM6.3 and ERD1's so hard to compare with the G2 in my 2 channel setup as I sold them a while back now. In my current application the drivers have no crossovers, its all done before the amps so no LCR network in the speakers..just direct from the amps to the coils. you can see my speakers here walaneh.com/LX521/ ...and others www.linkwitzlab.com/LX521/PhotoGallery.htm

... I like the better build quality and the aesthetics more than the G1. ... Don't know if you use them but did they add locking XLR connectors?
