I got it in yesterday and have just listened a bit, but the initial impression is well, impressive! First off, the music is killer, I think it is The Who's finest album personally. And have you heard Roger whisper "Sea" at the beginning of the album while the rain and sea sounds provide a soundscape? I had not. Not in decades of listening to the record. This version is much rounder than my cd copy and has more clarity (and fewer pop and clicks) than my British Track lp. The disc includes a recent remastered version, the original mastering (both in high res) and a very tasteful surround sound mix! By tasteful I mean that the basic band tracks and vocals are in front of you and the surrounds are used for the overdubbed horns and the like. That is the way I like my surround as opposed to the in the middle of the band perspective on say the Grateful Dead surround mixes. I was trying to listen to the difference between the mastering jobs, but they are presented with rather different volume levels so that will take more work and time than I had last night.
Quibbles? A couple. I turned up the bass 1 db to get the Ox to sound right to my ears. And while I appreciate the photos that were scanned to put something on the screen while the music played, would it have killed anyone to spend 2 hours in Photoshop cleaning up the dust spots? Really?
More impressions to come after I install the UPA-500 to drive my center and surround speakers, but my goodness I am glad I purchased this disc.

Can you see the real me?
I too, got mine the other night. The surround version is nice, but I think I like the 24/96 LPCM stereo version better. The surrounds place the instruments into a more 3D space, but the vocals seem a bit echoey and the overall sound seems a bit bass shy. Moon's drums seem to have leass punch. The stereo version is clearly better than the CD set.
Still, this is one of my fav The Who albums ever...now for a ride around the block on my GS scooter!

You make a good point about the echo on the vocals being more prominent in surround. But since I got my UPA-500 set up, everything is surround for a while!

Just ordered this today. Unfortunately, I won't be able to listen to it until Monday at the earliest. I'm looking forward to both the stereo and surround mixes. In my opinion this work is better than Tommy and one of my favorite releases by the band.

No. This is the Blu-ray Pure Audio version of the actual album Quadrophenia. It has a DTS-ma surround mix, DD True-HD surround, an LPCM stereo 24/96 and original flat stereo mix.
