Mostly I just try to treat it the same as I do a soap opera on TV,change the channel.Lots of other options are available.Going back to the other channels now,have fun guys.

I, personally, don't understand all the heartburn. Big Dan has it ready to go except for the room correction and has given those of us on the list an opportunity to purchase it now or wait until Dirac is ready without losing our place in line. The worst that this means is another delay for those that want the room correction. By time half the most vocal complainers name comes up on the list it may be ready! Goodness!!! Room correction isn't the be-all-end-all of 2-channel and HT! And there are choices: wait/don't wait or move on. Geez!

wizardofoz made a good post in the Dan thread where he speculated Emo would be playing things closer to the vest after all this hoopla (that's a nice word for it). While that certainly seems to make a lot of sense I hope it doesn't come to be. I think many of us are good resources for Emotiva, they make things and if they meet our needs we buy them. I think threads like the (paraphrasing) 'Would you buy a basic tube preamp' are helpful in judging the interest in a new product. Maybe a poll for what first upgrade we'd like to see for the XMC-1 (HDMI 2.x, Atmos/DTS, vape connector, ?). I know these threads can be all over the place, but there usually are some good coherent posts that reflect the general desire of the group. I know the inclination will be to button up, but maybe if Dan (or company) asked more questions (and made fewer promises), we'd have an idea what's going on, and they'd get an idea what we're looking for.

I'd even wager that a good percentage of the complainers don't even plan on buying one anyway. Being one who has complained recently, my complaint really has nothing to do with the XMC-1. And, as I have stated I don't plan to get an XMC-1...I want the "RMC-1". My complaint is really a complaint about a failed communication strategy from Emotiva, and I would really like to see it improved. Why is that important to me? Well, one thing I have REALLY valued about Emotiva is the very direct contact and communication with the company. Lack of that is a reason I walked away from the "big brands" and was so happy to find Emotiva. Why does this lead me to complain? Because, as noted, the nearly complete inability to communicate with the big brands drove me away, and I don't want Emotiva going that direction. While Dan would like to have communications be "open and honest", he's not found the right balance yet or the right way to communicate what (to me) are important nuances. This leads to communications which are either not open (as in, no communication at all) or not fully honest (leading to a lack of trust on my part). So, of course I don't want Emotiva continuing with their current communication strategy. I would LOVE to see them evolve to a strategy that allows them to tell us more about their plans for various products (to get us excited and wanting to follow) WITHOUT them committing too much. For example, they could establish a simple "status indicator" for various products to directly communicate with us in a simple way about things in the pipeline. For example, status: - "0" could be "not even on our radar screen at this point" - "1" could be "considered developing a product in category 'x' but not planning active development at this time". - "2" could be "active development beginning on a product in category 'x'...now seeking input on desired features/etc." - "3" could be "actively in development for a product in category 'x', preliminary specs/features include (insert list here), but no timing/cost available" - "4" could be "development completed, preparing production plans, final production specs/feature are (insert list here)" (And maybe, through us a bone here with "estimated but not committed timing for sales is with 'y' months") - "5" could be "production has begun, currently projecting sales beginning by 'z' date, but timing still subject to change" - "6" could be "available for sale on Emotiva.com" - "7" could be "retired product" At stage #0, we could lobby them to "please please do it!!!". At stage #1 or #2, they could solicit input from us on desired features/etc. but by the time they got to #3 - they'd be full steam ahead working on moving it to market. And, if they got into 3 and scrapped plans (as they did at least once on the XMC and also the XSP), they could simply communicate "we went back to a "1" or a "2" because we learned...and decided to change plans" Wouldn't this be nice to have a simple table available from Emotiva at any time that shows this status for everything? I am tired of not having my XMC-1. hehehe I am all happy happy joy joy knowing that it is coming to me soon.  Hearing the XMC is starting shipment has been the best news I have ever heard on this forum. |

Mark The reason why I like posts like this are: You articulate the issue You articulate WHY it's an issue (for you, for others, why it's not an empty concern) You propose solutions to try to either A) Make people happier B) not make the same mistake again C) give options Expressing frustration about a communication strategy is a far cry away from "I'm angry and I want to tell everyone" I for one would love to see what phase a product is in, I don't necessarily need/want explanations on everything else. |

I'm sure Emotiva's competition would like to know what phase a Emotiva product is in too......
At the same time, I'd rather not purchase a product from Emotiva's competiton. Although I would not doubt that loyal Emotiva customers have purchased from Emotiva's competitor due to not knowing what was going on or through sheer frustration. Basically, Emotiva looses the sale from their very own customer.
I know for some of us, money does not grow on the tree in our backyards. Once a competitor's product is purchased, and then the Emotiva product finally comes out, the Emotiva product is not later purchased since it was already spent on purchasing a similar product from Emotiva's competitor.

Thanks Jim! And George...I hope he does not go to that extreme. Otherwise Emotiva will become just like the big guys who tell us nothing. That would be dull.
On TMI/letting competition know...yes...a risk. But...in the past competition could know via this forum that they were working on a lot of products and could estimate where they were in the process. So, I don't think they would be giving away much info they didn't already give away. In fact, pricing would be held until late in the game.

Mark The issue I see with that is in keeping the status current on everything. That becomes another "job" for someone on the staff which, if they forget or miscode something, will just be grounds for people to do the pile on criticism that has become too common around here. |
