I missed the specs for the 6 and I didn't find the specs for the 4 in a quick google search, this center may indeed benefit from a monoblock! Weather it be for 2 channel or HT enjoyment. I

Monoblocks ALL the way around. The only way to go.

I use an monoblock for my center channel (XPA-2) works great! Looking at your gear on your signature line I highly recommend that you upgrade your center channel before throwing too much at it...Don't forget that is the channel that gets over 90% of the work in a home theater set up!

Okay, I may bite, but if I do decide to get another monoblock for this particular set up, does it have to be another XPA-1 gen 2 (or gen 1), or will a slightly "lesser" one, such as XPA-1L do the trick, that is, assuming one can hear the differences?
In other words, will the differences between options 1. and 2. below, be discernible, or will it simply be a matter of "splitting invisible hairs"?
1. L+C+R ==>> XPA-1 (G2) + XPA=1 (G2) + XPA-1 (G2)
2. L+C+R ==>> XPA-1 (G2) + XPA-1L + XPA-1 (G2)
I already have the amps to test out option 2 against my present setup, which uses XPA-5 for center and surrounds, but I do not have a third XPA-1 (G2), so I cannot test out option 1 yet.

L+C+R ==>> XPA-1 (G2) + XPA-1L + XPA-1 (G2) I already have the amps to test out option 2 against my present setup, which uses XPA-5 for center and surrounds, but I do not have a third XPA-1 (G2), so I cannot test out option 1 yet. An XPA-5 delivers 200 WPC with all 5 channels driven, 275 WPC with 2 channels driven and from memory around 225 WPC with 3 channels driven. I use a pair of XPA-1L's (BTW all XPA-1L's are Gen 2) rated at 250 watts for the FL and FR and 3 channels of the XPA-5 for C, RS and LS. On adjusting the volumes when I added the XPA-1L's I had to add 0.5 db (net) to the centre to rebalance the SPL's. Hardly a big deal. Based on that I would expect a couple of db would balance an XPA-1L for the C with XPA-1's for the FL and FR. But the real question is what advantage is there is going from the XPA-5 running the C to an XPA-1L? Based on my listing experience very little and the watts don't lie (i.e. 225 WPC vs 250 WPC). So unless you have a need for the spare channel on the XPA-5 (I use the 2 channels freed up on the XPA-5 by the XPA-1L's to drive Zone 2) then moving to an XPA-1L probably isn't worth the time, money and effort. As a test I would swap one of the XPA-1's to the C, replace it with a channel from the XPA-5, check the SPL's and then listen for a while. I'd also suggest playing some stereo music, 2.0 and 2.1 if you can, then try mono, listening just to the XPA-1 and the XPA-5 driving one channel each. You might be surprised at the results. Cheers Gary

Cheers Gary Hi Gary: Your input actually resonates very well with the line of thinking the prompted me to resurrect this thread. I have been very happy with my current setup as it is and I only attribute this new "itch" of upgraditis to an XPA-1 I saw online for sale at a quite reasonable price. There is one voice in my head which is saying "if ain't broke don't fix it" and I hope it grows stronger in the coming weeks. So far, I have been able to resist the urge to pull the trigger on the XPA-1 I saw, which got sold quite quickly, thank God! I am going to wait for this new "itch" to expire, and I hope it does so soon, and I do not come across any other tempting XPA-1 deals, while waiting.

Rather than monoblock-amplify the center, I'd just as soon buy a center with bi-wire inputs, remove the jumpers, and power it with a stereo amp.
