Hi All, Been a long time since I visited here. I'm glad to see the community is still going strong. A lot has changed in 7 years! I've been enjoying my old Emotiva gear. I have a RSP-1 preamp and used a BPA-1 for an amp. I'm starting to have issues with the BPA-1 so it's time for me to upgrade. I believe something along the line of the UPA-200 is all I need for an amp, but I'm also considering an XPA-200. I generally like to buy stuff used and I'm surprised by the prices that used UPA-200 amps are selling for! It really doesn't make sense to buy one of them used. I do however see some UPA-2 amps here and there. My understanding is the the UPA-2 and the UPA-200 are really quite different and that the XPA-200 is a closer match to the UPA-2. So, my question is, should I be looking for a used UPA-2 or XPA-200? Another alternative would be just get a new UPA-200. Thanks All! Aaron

It honestly depends on your budget. The UPA-2 and the XPA-200 are very very similar. You can see it from the pictures. But there are differences. The XPA-200 has XLR inputs (though not fully balanced like the XPA-1). The XPA-200 has more capacitance - 80,000 mf which may help.
THe UPA-2 has a line out passthrough for daisy chaining. For instance you can couple your BPA-1 and the UPA-2 togeher as a bi amp unit. It also has a gain matching knob (or volume control). They likely are both 32 db gain anyway. You can use the BPA-1 to amp the treble unit and the UPA-2 to amp the bass woofers. Both the UPA-2 and the XPA-200 share two amp blades from the XPA-5 series.
The UPA-200 has a fan and uses single amp blade. It is claimed to have a "shorter signal path". IMO if budget is a concern I would get a used UPA-2.
If you can at all - try a used XPA-2. Your RSP-1 should do a real treat with it. The BPA-1 (well mini-x) I found had a smiliar sound signature to the XPA-2.

Good info! I'm intrigued by the XPA-2. Should I be looking for Gen 1 or Gen 2?

Turns put I don't think the BPA-1 is dead yet. Seems the problem was with the RSP-1 with a "dirty" volume control I have a few other issues with the RSP-1, so I'm going to look into getting it fixed and then maybe upgrade the amp later. Seems like the RSP-1 is still a nice analog 2ch pre, so it's worth getting fixed.

Well finally got the RSP-1 back. Sounds great, especially since it's now match up with an XPA-2. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
