Back lit remote. I know the argument that everyone defaults to universal remotes. But, if that were truly a valid point, then why invest in the cost to manufacture one of the best feeing, but poorest seeing renotes ever made? My theater is dark. I cant see anything on this remote. I'd pay $3 or $4 extra. +11 I'll go $25, 'cause it's still cheaper and WAYYYY more tank-like than either of my URC MX-500 or whatevers, that lasted 2 years or so MAX (also not universal, but that's okay). As OP said, they're beautiful and solid remotes...why not add 'functional (in theatre-like conditions)' to the list?

More functionality for the HDMI outputs 1) Output video from one HDMI input with audio from a different input 2) Output the [non-downmixed] audio being decoded in the main zone 3) Output different sources to the outputs 1) Not sure if any copy protection issues (HDCP) might forbid this. 2) Non-downmixed? If you are talking about the other zones (1 and 2) it is by definition downmixed ie. stereo output. 3) I think this already happens with zone 2.

The metal remotes are expensive to make and we could easily change to a back lit plastic remote, but I wonder what people would say if we did. Lonnie

Lonnie I think this is one of those "you can't please everyone" decisions. Some folks prefer the metal remotes, other folks would prefer a backlit or plastic remote. Then there are those that don't care because they use a Harmony or whatever. Personally, I love the metal remotes and know my way around just by touch. It's not a problem to operate it in low-light conditions.

I don't care much about backlit remotes. I don't use them in the dark much. Plastic remotes in my mind are disposable.

The metal remotes are expensive to make and we could easily change to a back lit plastic remote, but I wonder what people would say if we did. Lonnie I'm squarely in the "leave it as it is" camp. Like DR has already stated, you can't please everyone and I'm sure the moment you make such a change there would be an opposing outcry of folks saying " I can't believe a $2,000 processor would come with a cheesy plastic remote". I remember those same complains when the UMC-200 was released (and that's a $599 processor…) So, IMO, no, leave it just like it is… the classic Emotiva all metal "weapons grade" remote. The XMC-1 deserves no less. Wait… maybe you could just throw in a small pocket flashlight with "blue" LEDs….

Lonnie Like many I have a Harmony for daily use, whatever remote comes with my equipment ends up in a drawer. That said I appreciate the quality of the Emo metal remote that works perfectly when I need it (which admittedly isn't that often). So if a reliable, plastic, backlit remote would be more popular with a larger group I'd be ok with it - after all my Harmony is plastic (though well made).

I designed a back lit aluminum remote sometime back but it was pretty expensive.
Would anyone be willing to pay an extra $50.00 for it?

IMO the XMC-1 is something special in the processor world, and as such a plastic remote just doesn't fit the profile. Either keep it the way it is with the metal remote or do something like you all did with the DMC-1/DMR-1, a rebadged URC MX-500 type of remote.

Lonnie A backlit aluminum remote would certainly impress my friends that come over for movies (and we know that life is all about impressing people). If there's any piece of Emotiva gear that deserves a fancy remote, it would be the XMC-1. So yeah, I'd pay $50 for it just because it would be really cool. Oh, and Lonnie designed it. That makes it even cooler. I'm already on the reservation list for your Clock and Toaster. Do you prefer $50 in a check or cash?

I like the metal ones. I have 3 and they are displayed with my system like art. Back lit would be nice, but I don't use them unless I'm running a setup so maybe not $50 nice.

Lonnie asked about a backlit, aluminum remote: "Would anyone be willing to pay an extra $50.00 for it?"
Hell yes! That would be classy as all get out!!
