I have owned Crown Drivecores for two years. They are stacked on top of each other (3) and not once have the fans come on. They weigh about 9lbs each. They are powering 4ohm Polk Lsi's and I run them hard at times and they never even get warm. Besides sounding great they have features beyond most power amps. See Andrew's review: www.arccinema.com/crown-xls-drivecore-amplifier-review/

Oh, and I have bought all of mine used from Guitar Center ranging from $249 to $300 an amp. No problems whatsoever.

I would like Emotiva to bring out a line of digital amps. Sorry to say but the D in class D amp doesn't stand for digital... My Hypex NCore is as digital as a Tube amp....

That is a very good question and one that opens to door to another. I think everyone would agree that Class A and A/B amps are great, but they weigh a ton. How many of you would like a really nice light weight Class D? Thoughts and or comments? Lonnie Two things are missing from the portfolio IMO. A thin amp. Most living room systems can't accommodate the size (or heat) of the big amps. A headphone amp. Turn the mini x sideways, throw a headphone jack on it and you have a competitor for a Ragnarock.

They showed a headphone amp intended for studio use at the last emofest. It had multiple headphone inputs for studio needs. A scaled back version for home use would meet your need.

Another idea... As some of you folks know, I've been asking for a high powered EMOTIVA integrated amp. Class D topology would make this a real easy one IMHO. 200+ w/ch in 8 ohms, doubling down at 4 ohms, 5-6 high level inputs and a processor loop, subwoofer management and a basic IR remote. Might as well throw in a phono input for those resistant to change. And for the love of music, PLEASE no ugly VFDs. Feel free to add USEFUL analog meters for my entertainment.

An Emotiva made class D monoblock would probably push me over into a DIY subwoofer world project. Yeah i would love to see an emotiva class d subwoofer amp, as long as it did 2 ohm i would totally be in.

So why is it that most people disses class D amps to use for regular speakers instead of only subwoofers? Can somebody shine some light please?

Earlier class D amps were noisy and grainy sounding. That reputation is a "hold out" like earlier CDs sounding bad, and people complaining that modern day CDs also sound bad. Some do, many don't...but the reputation continues. The latest models are actually quite good. Pioneer uses them in their top of the line receivers and they sound great. They are also super efficient with very little heat generation. Typically, they are small in size, which makes them great for subs...and also thinner amps and receivers.

Class D has certainly become a compelling technology. I think one major issue is that for years people associated weight as an indication of quality when it came to their electronics (Me included) and concluded that a 10 lb power amp putting several hundred watts can't possibly sound as good as their 110 lb behemoth power amps. Maybe at first, this was true. I think it's a MUCH different story now.

jmilton is dead on in his statements above. When I owned a music store we tried in the late 80's the latest, greatest power amp design....the Stewart Class D amps. They were light weight, powerful, but they sounded terrible. We gave up on them until the Carver PM 1.5's came out. So, with the Carvers we tried Class D again. Big improvement over the Stewarts, but still "flat sounding" somewhat. We used them to power our JBL 4520 Double 15" Scoop Bass Bins that we rented out. They sounded good to us only on the low end.
Fast forward 25 years and the same myths about Class D not sounding as good as other amp designs is still perpetuated unjustifiably by some. Class D is amazing sounding now. I prefer it over any other design. Twenty five years ago it was advised to stay from any Japanese made "junk" because of it's inferior quality. But a lot has changed with Japanese engineering in 25 years. So has it with Class D. But Class D is beginning to catch on more and more because of the quality of sound now. Funny, they run so cool that I do not even take the dust covers off of them anymore. I turn them on thru the covers. They generate no heat...don't even get warm no matter how hard I push them.....freaky!!!

I love my nCores, lots of power and control and a completely black noise floor. That being said, I think that you'd need to do something that set yourself apart, as I bet that there are a number of other IDs selling D amps out there, so it won't just be pricing. And I have some rocking cases from KD emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/30081?page=12

A 5ch 500W per class D amp 1RU high has a market. But what would that do to XPR sales? No one is taking my XPR-5. ...unless a 5ch 1000W class D comes out.

For multi-channel, I'm with you bootman, but for 2 channel music, they'll never get my MONOBLOCKS!!!!!! Edit: and it should have VU meters with a lovely blue hue to it!!!

Well well,.... I would love an Emotiva branded hypex ncore amps!!
It can be done... NAD has released their M22 amp based on the NC400, so it definitely can happen. And for the XPR crowd, they could do amps based on the NC1200, which are for OEM only.
