Per the following link, I really want Emo's TI-based processors to have fully configurable inputs like the UMC-1 has. It appears based on the responses, many others do, and at the LA show - the Emo folks said that it's possible to add but they are not working on it. They would if enough customers were truly interested. I'd like to put some numbers together to encourage them to get working on it (if not for the XMC-1, then at least for the future derivatives of the TI-based platform). So, check what applies to you in the poll. Elaborate after you post on how critical this feature is to you...like, whether or not it affects your intent to purchase. Please only check one of the first 4 boxes if you have been strongly considering one of Emotiva's TI-based pre-pro's. If you are not contemplating buying, check the last box but elaborate on your thoughts on the feature in your post. Also note...on the 2nd option, it should read "Yes - but not 'very' important to me" Somehow, in editing that one, I deleted the word "very". In any case, elaborate below on the reasons for you vote! If you don't know why I think this is important and the link doesn't make it clear, see my post later on this page. emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/37964/xmc-1-feature-suggestions?page=15Mark

As you might have guessed, I voted "yes - very important to me". For me, having had this feature on the UMC-1 and using it heavily every day - I find it amazingly valuable. When I found that the XMC-1 doesn't have it, it was a major blow. I went from planning to spend my 40% off card on the XMC-1 instead of the RMC to waiting for the RMC in hopes it would have the feature. In other words, it directly impacted my purchase intent...in the direction Emotiva doesn't want it to go.
So, if it's technically possible but they don't want to do it on the XMC, then I clearly hope they add it back on future XMC derivatives like the RMC or whatever it will be called.

Yes. Absolutely. This capability is a big deal for me.

I voted yes, very important, but I will be buying an XMC-1 regardless. This is to encourage Emo to add this feature to the XMC-1, and not just future units.

I guess I fall under "I don't know what I'm missing" since it has been so long ago I sold my UMC and my current setup (and all other previous setups) didn't include this feature.
Does that make me indifferent or nice feature but not important?
Maybe a write up on how this is a valuable feature may help others vote. Did the UMC-200 have this feature?

Did the UMC-200 have this feature? Yes, but it only had 6 configurable sources whereas the UMC-1 had 16.

Indeed this a very nice option I currently use on my UMC-1. I could work around this feature but still if the XMC-1 could be supplied with this feature I will use it immediately.

Did the UMC-200 have this feature? Yes, but it only had 6 configurable sources whereas the UMC-1 had 16. I'm with bootman. I don't know what I would be missing even though I have a multitude of inputs into my UMC-1, some sources using both the analog and digital outputs. Setting up my XMC tomorrow. Maybe I'll realize what is meant by "configurable inputs". Russ

Thanks Mark, I didn't have a clue what all the hub-bub was about until I read the link. OMG, ( and I think that's the only time I've ever used that ) but geezzzze! I couldn't imagine not being able to fully configure what I wanted. All of my Yamaha AVRs do this and I just took it for granted that all modern gear could implement this technology! Why wouldn't they? ? When I purchase the XMC-1 I just don't know how I'll feel about keeping it if it doesn't do this. It's really in fathomable to me. I realize everyone plays with their toys differently but I like options! Big Dan! Lonnie! Look at my sig,,,,,,I love options!! Bad enough at this point were limited to 7.2 but this,,,,this is just ,,,,,OMG! oK, everyone here knows that I'm a LITTLE excitable! OK,,,OK,,,,, I'll be OK,,,,,deep breaths ,, inhale,,,,,now,,,,slowly,,,,,,,,, would someone please help me articulate my point? Thanks. we would please like our toys to play nicely the way we want them to ,,,,PLEASE Nick

I voted "no" as I don't see any use for that option in my acoustically reasonable room. A single equalisation setting works for those inputs that need it and no equalisation works for those where I don't want equalisation. If I did, which I don't see ever happening, I would simply use a HDMI splitter. No big deal.
Cheers Gary

I voted yes, but not at the expense of long switching times or long locking times.

bootman audiosyndrome and any others not knowing what this is about... With the UMC-1's flexibility, you can set up different virtual inputs (which some call "fully configurable" inputs) and mix and match any physical inputs you want...any video in with any audio in. And, you can assign multiple virtual inputs thesame HDMI input. Why is this valuable? I am glad you asked! With this, with 1 button push, you can get exactly what you want. In my case, I have my bluray configured 5 ways: with and without EQ, EQ and decoding preference set for movies vs concert blurays, and one using the HDMI for video but using the multichannel analog inputs for audio. I also have it set up so I can listen to my TT either without video or using my DirecTV as a video input (so, if I want to listen to tunes yet keep and eye on a game or race..I can). I also have my Sonos set up this way. There are many other options of ways you could use it, for example instead of with and without EQ...you could uses one for automatically using Dirac and another for using a manually eq'd option. While some of these things can be done w/multiple button pushes if the feature is not present, I like to touch one button and get exactly what I want. And given the XMC won't let you assign a given HDMI to multiple virtual/configurable inputs, what I do w/my bluray cannot even be done. I hope that helps you understand the capabilities of the feature. Mark

Mark I guess I can program my Harmony remote to do the one touch thing also but I do get that this offers a great level of convenience if utilized in the correct way.

I believe we can do the same (as the UMC-1) with the UMC-200 but I've not paid any attention to it as I don't use it and I don't see that I will ever need it in the future.
I'm searching for reasons why, maybe it's because my multi channel (5.1) listening is equalised the same for all inputs because that's what sounds best to my ears. Equally my stereo (2.1) music listening is not equalised, uses analogue inputs and analogue bass management, because that's what sounds best to my ears. I can't imagine that I would ever need different equalisation settings for the same multi channel inputs. If I did I'd just Y split the inputs anyway.
Cheers Gary

I voted "Nice feature". With the UMC-1 and my Marantz processor I was using HDMI for video and Optical for audio from my cable box. But I can't for the life of me remember why. With the XMC I'm just usinhg HDMI but there is the problem of watching TV in XMC standy with DRASTIC differences in volume. The volume changes from channel to channel and even on the same channel between different commercials. It's VERY annoying. But I have a HDMI splitter from Monoprice coming so that should solve the issue.

I do the same for the cable box connection to the UMC-200, avoids HDMI/HDCP issues. Which, of course, has nothing to do with virtual inputs (the subject of this pole). I don't see how having virtual inputs would solve this problem. Not sure how a HDMI splitter will fix it either as the volume differences are inherent in the source material. Cheers Gary

I bet your use of optical w/the umc-1 was due to audio dropouts.
But...why would the splitter solve your channel to channel volume issues?

Gary Cook it is about more than EQ...re-read my post elaborating to bootman and audiosyndrome. And, I really want to avoid splitters...too much cabling in what is already a rat's nest. When this can be done virtually, why not? Mark
