Hey Forum,
For those who have Gen 2 amps, I am wondering if the power button is dimmer than the Gen 1 units? I understand that the indicator switch on the Gen 2 amps disables the led in the clear panel, and also dims the ring around the power button? If so is it really dim?
I am interested in this because I would like to tone down the light output without any covers/tape etc. I have a pair of UPA-1s and the workaround I devised is a red square of acrylic plastic with a base that slides under the front of the amp. This enables me to slide it right up against the power button and the blue completely disappears, nice for movies in the dark.
I am considering jumping in on the clearance XPA-1Ls, and I would just use these light blockers. If I wait for a Gen 2, maybe this problem goes away? That would be a $200 difference in price per unit though. I am considering doing this anyway, because they would match my planned XMC-1. Also, I have some trade-ins that I could use. They are a UMC-1, and a UPA-1 (rca in broken though).
I doubt I can unload these items on my own for the Eclub trade in, currently $200 and $180 respectively. I know I will have to kick in shipping and Eclub ($100 combined I think).
If anyone can comment on the lights and wether they think waiting is a good play, please let me know.
Thanks everyone for any help or ideas.

I do not have any Gen 2 stuff but I have been in many conversations about these lights and here's what I'm 95% sure is the answer.
Gen 2 amps lights are "dimmer" than Gen 1 lights, but, the switches on back work the same way. This means the switches on back only control what you do with the lights within the monitor screen, not the power button. The power button is set to a "fixed" brightness, and it's always on. But it is dimmer than Gen 1.
Pictures also make it appear like the color blue is slightly different also, but this just may be the cameras taking the pics, I don't know.
Also, Gen 2 buttons are "black chrome", not chrome, so the appearance of the buttons themselves is different, lights or no lights.
Hope that helps.

The Gen 2 ERC-3 that I have is noticeably dimmer and more amber in color than the rest of the Gen 1 gear that I have.

I have an XPA-5 gen 2, and the power button "e" and ring are definitely a lot dimmer with the channel LEDs switched off. With the LEDs switched off, the power button and ring put out a similar quantity of light (to my eye at least) as the display on my Denon 3313CI AVR on its lowest (but still visible) dimmer setting. Of course, the Denon puts off a softer gray light versus the electric blue of the XPA-5. Either way, they aren't a nuisance when watching movies in darkness. On the occasion that I listen to music in total darkness, I sometimes place an object (like a DVD case) in front of these two light sources.
With the channel LEDs switched on, the power button and ring are bright enough to be irritating when watching a movie in the dark. If this is the same brightness as the gen 1 has, I can see why people are annoyed with it. If this high brightness could not be defeated, as I understand is the case for gen 1, I would probably find a way to block the light or disable the light source.
