I'm refreshing my home theatre equipment and I'm wondering if there's any Class D amps coming from Emotiva. Right now I'm going to be stuck buying a Rotel. I'd rather give my money to Emotiva though.
Anyone have any idea?

Why not a Crown XLS amp? I don't recall anyone at Emotiva talking about Class D amps other than as a 'well maybe down the road' etc. The Crown DriveCore amps are very good. I owned an XLS-1500 for some time and found it to be very good. Andrew Robinson was very impressed with the XLS line too. You don't need to be 'stuck' with a Rotel. And FWIW Rotel makes some good stuff.

I heard something about 2 years ago (3.3 months of emotiva time) about an outboard class d sub amp in the works. But it has been quite quiet since then.

They have said a few times that they don't really have any value add for class D amps. Basically, the main class-d players produce a whole module that just gets dropped in. And it takes lots of R&D to develop said modules.
Is there a particular reason that you want class D? (Not to say for or against, just an interesting deciding factor.) And what price range?

Right now the popular choices are Hypex Ncore 400 (NC400) modules which have really nice specifications in terms of distortion. Also red dragon monoblocks seem popular

About a month ago Lonnie asked what kind of interest there would be in a Class D amp, you can read about it HERE.

I can think of a few reasons he would want to go class D. Extremely low heat output. Compact/low weight designs. High dollar/output ratio. 10 years ago, I would never would have considered a Class D design. Over the past few years however, the technology has matured and has come into it's own with very compelling designs like B&O's ICEpower and Hypex Ncore. I think the main issue with the Class D designs is that it difficult for some to believe a 5 pound amp can put out a 1000 watts RMS! We "ol' time" audiophiles expect such amps to weigh at least 100+ pounds!

Andrew Robinson, when he was in Emo's employ, absolutely raved about the Crown XLS digital amps. I would think that would be enough of an endorsement for one to go ahead and get some of these very good amps...

I've owned many class D amps including a Peachtree, Wyred4Sound, and am currently running a classDaudio amplifier. To me they have all had a similar sound signature and I don't know that I've preferred the sound of one amp to another. Before I went class D I was running an XPA-5 and I don't feel that I lost anything switching to class D over the XPA. I did gain a lot of rack space back though which is nice.

I loathe waste and I like efficiency. Class D's are up to par now, so it's my preference.
My price range is the cheapest thing to fit the bill of my listening profile. There's no difference in the sound of amps (operating inside of their published limits) so I'm looking at Rotel 1565 right now. The RSRP is $1100 (unlike Emotiva, there's a lot of markup there to keep a brick and mortar store in business), but on Ebay they're going for 5-600. I'll likely pair it with a UMC-200. Would rather Emotiva though.

Build some Hypex! They sound great and you can build them quite easily. I love mine.

I do love my nCores (btw, NAD has apparently secured a deal to OEM the nCore 400s. They much have had a good deal, with a lot of volume. Stereo amp is $3k, rather than $1500 DIY. Here's the inside of that amp:

No, there are no class D in the pipeline. Just A/B, H and G. g? G and H are very similar. Sansui used G back in the 70"s

G and H are very similar. Sansui used G back in the 70"s I meant which emo amp (or one that is upcoming) was class G? I must have missed it. P.S.: I actually had the opprutnity to get a very nice Sansui amp for a very nice price. But I went with a slightly more powerful Kenwood. But that sansui looked spiffy! It was the g3500.

Here's the inside of that amp: Compared to other CLass D setups I've seen, that Rotel unit seems awfully messy inside. I would expect a lot more refinement for $3000.

The real truth is NO ONE knows what Emotiva is up to as far as R&D goes so its pretty funny when people come here and ask those questions. No one here knows. I would say call Emotiva and ask them..
