Umm Lets see, Maybe because with the XMC-1 it can be used for Home theater yet have excellent two channel audio. Even with my current Denon I'm using for a processor I've heard significant differences in various amps regarding two channel audio and BluRay concerts of good quality. I've never heard a Class D amp that sounds as good as a good Class A/B amp. I plan to use my system for both two channel and Home theater. Also, High Quality Bluray Concerts definitely benefit from an amp that is "Musical". There are many many many individuals that unlike yourself have heard a Class D and preferred it over the Class A/B amps. Hence, very subjectively, there are Class D amps that are more "Musical" than Class A/B amps. Well, not everyone uses the term 'Musical' to describe a better sounding amp, but I agree there are those who prefer a specific Class D amp over a specific A/B. How come so much interest in a multi-channel amp? You're usually the first to say 'two channels are all I need'.

Maybe I am just thinking out loud. I am open-minded so I like to explore the possibilities.

>> Are the Crowm amps musical or just raw power? Im assuming they are class D? << Well, Andrew Robinson was fairly well bowled over by the Crown amps and highly recommended them. And they are widely used by pros for amplifying live musical events. So I reckon they are both powerful and "musical". And yes, they are Class D with some very special tweaks created by Harman and TI engineers. IMHO, they are the very best value amps you can buy today... SCT Well, that's Andrew Robinson; and some agree and some disagree with him. For me, he unabashedly loves Moulin Rouge (which is a musical) but sums up what he thinks is musical (IMO). FWIW, I have not heard the Crown amps so I neither agree or disagree with him (or you) on their sound. But, considering that some people have raved about speakers that I would consider a "penis-in-the-ear", all I'll say is that musical is what you define it to be (not what someone else defines it as).

So if they offer an amp that appears to beat everyone else's similar offerings on price by at least a fair margin then they're charging too much? Anyone looking for a 7 channel 200 WPC amplifier will probably have this one on their short list.

Anything that costs more than what I would like to spend whatever it is (including an amp that appears to beat everyone else's), I personally think that in fact "they're charging too much." Emotiva is in the business of making money and I am in the business of spending the least amount of money.

But I think they should reimburse me for my gas and time in getting there...

She says every year, her boss (the owner) goes through the list of clients and fires those who don't want to pay for the value of the services they are provided (i.e., those who either don't pay their bills in a timely manner or who haggle over the amount). It's nice to have the luxury of being able to do that but on the other hand, what is the point of keeping customers who don't generate a profit? It has to be a win-win situation. In the long run, there is a cost to everything. Nothing is "free."

Your ideas intrigue me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter. Anyone looking for a 7 channel 200 WPC amplifier will probably have this one on their short list. Agree 100%. My $0.02: As Emotiva fan(addicts), it's easy to become, shall we say accustomed to the lower pricing structure and incredible value these products offer us. I challenge those who feel the XPA-7 is overpriced to check out the other 7-channel amplifiers available today. Oh, and make sure the power handling is closely matched. Brand A might be cheaper than Emotiva, but it's only rated for 100 watts into 8 ohms or whatever. If the "Big Boys" out there offered this kind of power in a 7-channel amp, the price tag would be much higher. Here's just one example: the NAD T 977 7-channel amplifier. It's rated to 140 watts per channel into 8 ohms (no indication of ACD or 2 channel only). It'll also handle 4 ohm loads pumping out a massive, uh, 140 watts per channel. It even comes with a 3-year warranty. And the price for all of this? $2,800 give or take some dough. And it doesn't even come with balanced inputs. I'm not dissing the NAD, but the XPA-7 wipes the floor in both power and features (and that's just one example). There's a reason Emotiva charges what they do. If they lowered the price, it would probably end up being less powerful. Folks would say "why doesn't it do 200 wpc ACD into 8 ohms and 300 wpc into 4 ohms like the XPA-3/5?" Etc. Etc. Seriously, the XPA-7 is a great deal for all of that power and build quality.

Well, if a company is not able to keep customers spending and generating laverage then is time to revise the busines model including prices and services.

I think Emotiva should go back to being practical.......Moneywise... Is there a better deal for a 7 channel amp with the XPA-7's specs? The Outlaw is $250 more and shipping isn't included. actually, a better side by side comparison would be with the outlaw model 7700 because it has balanced inputs. the cost $2149 which is $550 more than the XPA-7. if you join the e-club that make the difference a whopping 550 + 159.9 - 49 = a $660.90 savings. assume a similar construction and sound quality, that makes the XPA-7 a REAL bargain. tchaik…………….

Hi guys, I love the spirited debate! Look, as all of you know, we do not engage in price gouging here at Emotiva. We are one of the few brands that work on a fixed profit margin, regardless of what the market might or might not bear. We do not play the price "flexibility" game. That is, we never adjust the price to what the market is willing to pay. Every model we sell has a retail price that directly correlates to its cost to build. No games, no gouging. The XPA-7 is a very expensive amplifier to build, and it is expensive to ship. That's all. Apples to apples, you'll have to spend a LOT more money to touch the performance and features of the new XPA-7. Is this the amp for you? Maybe it is, or maybe it isn't. Only you can decide. Whatever your decision, you can rest assured that we are offering a FAIR and HONEST price to you, based on our cost to build this product and get it to your door. Remember, we're the same guys the sell an audiophile quality seven channel amplifier for just $399.00! No one is complaining about this... Cheers, Big Dan

Cheers, Big Dan Dan, nice to see a comment from you about the price. I was actually hoping some of the comments would encourage you to comment on the price. It costs what it costs, nice to see it stated from time to time. I appreciate the "no games" when it comes to pricing. It's easy to "armchair" price out what we want a product to cost. Looks like a heck of an amp, nice to see it come to market! Now it's time for some people to buy it and check it out..

The XPA-7 is a very expensive amplifier to build, and it is expensive to ship. That's all. Sold! I will take two! When can I have them? No? Then I am afraid I will not purchase any other Emotiva gear either. Not as long as the no-shipping-oversees policy remains unchanged.

I think too, some may be used to 'the golden age' of Chinese manufacturing where labor, parts, manufacturing, and probably shipping allowed products to be delivered at lower prices than we see today. Dan would know this better than the rest of us, but we regularly hear about companies moving manufacturing back to the U.S. because it's now competitive to build products here. That doesn't mean we've gotten cheaper, but that they've become more expensive. Case in point is the XMC-1, it's more expensive than originally projected and now built in the USA, but it may not have been any cheaper built in China. We may have temporarily benefited from cheap Chinese labor and manufacturing, but as they've become more successful the prices have continued to rise.

If you are stepping up the comparison to the 7700 becuase of the balanced inputs on the xpa-7, it would only be fair to mention that the Outlaw is fully balanced on all channels, making the connections actually worthy of something.. Sent from my SM-P600 using proboards good point. thanks for pointing that out. although, even compared to the 7200 the xpa-7 is still a bargain. with the 7200 at $1849 and with the xpa-7 at an eclub price of... (1599+49-159.90=) $1,488.10 which is still $360.90 less. tchaik
