So I'm looking for for a nice 7 channel amp for my dedicated theater build that won't break the bank.
I've come across two options that might be suitable and wanted to get some feedback.
Option 1 Sherbourn 7/2100 - Excellent condition - About 9/10 years old
Option 2 Emotiva MPS-2 - Excellent condition - About 6 years old
Both are roughly the same price ($1000 or so). Should I be concerned with the age of either? Age aside, any preferences?

Any reason in particular?

Any reason in particular? The prefer the aesthetics and it's newer like you mentioned, otherwise I'm sure power wise they would both be pretty equal. Chad

I know you didn't list this as one of your options, but what about an XPA-7? You can get it for $1295.10 if you're an e-club member. You wouldn't have to worry about age and you'll have a 5 year warranty where the MPS-2 & 7/2100 don't have one.

I'm in Canada. As far as I know Emotiva won't ship the XPA-7 here. Even if they did, with the exchange, taxes and shipping I'm looking at close to $1850 Canadian.

I think Fattykid has a MPS-1 for sale, I'm only an hour from the Canadian/US border so I drive over and pick my stuff up and save the pricey shipping costs.

One other concern I had with either amp is that I'm using high efficiency speakers in my room. Some DIY SEOS speakers for LCR (98db) and some Klipsh Surrounds (93db). I'd rather not have to deal with hum etc.
Thoughts?

I use jtr triple 8's 98dbsensitve also... Since I connected my shaw cable to a line conditioner I have zero hum. The mps has gain of 27db (or so the manual says)

I would pick the MPS-2. I think it is a better amplifier design than the XPA amps and the modular design should make repairs easier. Just send in the module that needs repair instead of a 100+ pound amplifier.

I think I've decided to go with the MPS-2, but I need to find a set of rack ears as the one I'd buy doesn't have them. Sort of a deal breaker for me as I don't want this sucker sitting on a rack shelf. Anyone have a set they'd part with?
