Gents,
Seeing the last reviews posted here are from 2013, here's mine.
I bought my XPA-5 new in late 2009, but due to space constraints (read : no room to setup a proper 5.1 system) it was actually fired up for the first time only two years ago after moving into our current house.
"It is folly!" I hear you say, "one does not simply leave such a beastly amp starving for some audio transients to crunch!"
Well what can I say other than : it was worth the wait !!
The XPA-5 sounds as "real" as possible to my ears. It has the kind of punch / attack to it that I think makes dynamics and transients, in recordings and movies, sound as they should. I you were to hear an explosion in real life, you'd hear (and obviously feel) the shock from it. It would not be subtle. That's the kind of transparency I've come to appreciate with the XPA-5. It does not "smooth things out" for you. It does not make everything "comfy". I feel it is uncompromising, unforgiving in its approach to deliver power and that's what I like.
I've had no issues, no hum, no noise, no nothing. We've had an episode of fluctuating power recently, and I guess it was bad enough as the amp shut itself down at some point (as did my Onkyo), but it went through without a hitch.
I even get compliments on how badass it looks!
All in all, the XPA-5 is one hell of an amp.

I love Emo amps! They are amazing value no matter which one you get.

It's easy to understand why XPA-5's are so popular, they do 5 channels of movies with plenty of response, impact, punch, slam etc and yet also do stereo music with aplomb.
Happy New Year Gary

I have the XPA-7 and love the sound in two channel mode. I feed it from a Wryed 4 Sound pre-amp.and a Marantz 7702 in multichannel mode.
