Pallpoul,
glad you could finally setup your 8100, I recall one of your previous posting mentioning the closet :-)
I am using one of the optical input on my 8100 to get the audio from an external HDTV OTA Tuner (the one in my HDTV stopped working...) and it works fine. The only thing I had to do was to boost the gain a few dB, just to bring the level up to that of the other sources (a Roku and BD Player).
Forgive me if I may state obvious steps which you may have already gone thorugh, but going through a mental checklist, this is what I would do in a case like this:
- Check that the connectors at both ends are properly inserted and that no lint, dust or what not got into the connector of the Sonos or the 8100
- Check that the tip at each end of the optical cable is not scratched, chipped or dirty
- Check that the cable was not bent at an angle such that damage may have occurred
- Check that on both the Sonos and Emotiva no setting was altered, reducing the output level or the input gain
- Try the other optical input on the 8100
- Try another cable with the same equipment
- Try the same cable with other equipment
- If all else fails, as a last resort do a complete "Load Default" of the 8100 (hopefully you have not spent too much time customizing the settings....
- If even that does not work, before assuming the optical input is broken, it might be worth considering a re-flash of the firmware. As I described in another post, this is how I resolved a serious issue with Zone 2 volume control.
Good luck with your troubleshooting!
