Hi all,
this is my first post here. I only recently discovered Emotiva and must admit I am quite happy with what I see.
I believe I will soon become an Emotiva amplifier owner. These products look so good.
As a long McIntosh lover, I am obsessed with the analog VU meters which they put on their amplifiers.
Do you think Emotiva could come up with such a cosmetic upgrade and a switch to turn VU meter lights (hopefully in current Emotiva blue/purple color) on and off?

I would love to see VU Meters on the Emotiva amps. I think the addition of pretty blue back lighting would make the pieces even more attractive.

I voted yes but my wallet says no. I already have three XPA-1L amps and plan to add two or four more in the not too distant future. Naturally, I couldn't have some with and some without which means I'd have to replace my original three....which I would probably do. Such a rough life I lead...

True, with the glut of equipment I already own it would cost me a fortune to revamp my system. You've got to be kidding me.
So many already complain bitterly about the bright blue LED's, VU metres would be catastrophic.
Oh! They can turn them off, then why have them in the first place.
They are never accurate anyway. McIntosh VU's have proven to often be ~40% out in their readings.
Paying for something that at best is a novelty and in reality gets looked at for the first couple of days of ownership, then is ignored.
It would be nothing more than a waste of time (Emotiva's), money (mine) and effort (Emotiva's).
Don't waste Emotiva's time and effort on VU's, spend it on something worthwhile that actually makes sound, better.

I love them! I agree that the use of VU's won't increase in any way the quality of the amps themselves and are probably not worthy of investment, on our part or Emotiva's part....but I still like the idea. |

I agree many wouldn't like it.
Anyhow, it would be nice if they could offer it as an optional for some (hopefully not too much) extra $.

I'm a no. I'm in the minimalist camp. I would never use meters for any reason. If I don't use it I don't want it to complicate the amp any further.

Depends on the FUNCTION of the meter. Everyone here 'assumes' power.
ME? A more useful meter would be BIAS. Especially since the amp runs in 'a' for most of its range. The meter would be similar to what is found in Pass Labs amps. When the meter MOVES is when you are drawing lots of power and the meter indicates changes in bias current. otherwise? It stays still in the MIDDLE of its range.
Making a meter switichable would be neat. Power? Bias? Line Voltage? PS Current IN?
That's enough for now.

Don't forget, the ICONIC Mac Blue Meters have probably sold as much gear as the sound. At shows, the room with Mac Gear ALWAYS has a good selection of lookers gazing at the BIg Stack of Mac stuff. ALL in the signiture blue glow.

Depends on what you consider "useful". To me the appearance or Looks of an amp is useful. To others they would prefer a solid black box. To each their own.. |
