Being a Canadian myself and living in the US since 96, I still get the odd looks from neighbors about my accent. I don't notice it anymore but there are still certain words they catch me on.

how do you power your center channel for HT? How much power does you center channel have feeding it? im looking at a Paradigm CC-690 which has two sets of binding posts, it could be bi-amped. how is yours connected and what would you suggest? I'm open to all recommendations ! View AttachmentI have one channel from the XPR-5 powering my C208. It's not quite as large as the Paradigm but it's still a large center channel speaker and less efficient. I'd say either get the XPR-5 and sell the XPA-5 or get a third XPR-1.

I have the Sherbourn PA 7-350 powering my 7.1 setup and love it. It is a great center channel and a perfect match with the studio 100's. +1. That PA7-350 will feed the 100s without any issues. I love that combo!

Feed your center channel speaker exactly the same power your feed the L&R. Right now I have the LF powered by an XPA-100, the RF powered by an XPA-1L and the C powered by one channel of an XPA-5. Obviously I've equalised the SPL's very carefully. I can't tell the difference for movies and neither can anyone else who has listened. With music I can just, just pick up the RF being different when it's in Class AB. Sometimes I think I'm imagining it. It's a fraction, a tiny fraction, more noticeable in Class A. I can't speak for differences in the sonic signature of the XPR range, as they not shipped to Australia, but I seriously doubt that there will be much difference at movie level volumes to the XPA range. Cheers Gary

Cheers Gary I don't see the point in using the exact same amp on a center speaker either, almost every center speaker out there will sound slightly different to the L&R, even if the drivers are the same size the enclosure is smaller, so if the speaker isn't identical then why use an identical amp? my two cents worth.

Canadians don't have accents.. its the Americans that have those things .. I speak the queens English almost eh.. lol I agree, most Canadians sound alike....coast to coast. Whatever the hell is going on here in the US is beyond me. East coast slang Mass.), west coast slang (CA.), southern twang (huh?), northern U-per talk (almost Canadian).... I had to retrain myself when I came over. Can. US. Eaves troughs = Downspouts and Gutters Roof = Ruff Grade school = Elementary school High School = Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior None = Middle School? University Degree = First round pick College Degree = Athletic scholarship Having 5000-10000 people showing up for a high school football game, whereas my Canadian school games drew 250 or so spectators. Tons of people enlist in the military over here...and everyone is a patriot. In 26 years in Canada I knew of only one person that had been in the service. Okay, all joking aside, and I am not trying to make this political, just stating some other differences that took a long time to get used to. Widespread illiteracy over here, it really is more of the norm than the exception. Minimum wage for servers, waitstaff and such is just over $2 an hour. Minimum wage is $7.25 here in Michigan, whereas Canada is $11 per hr. Yikes....no need to evaluate any further. Lets just say.....Yeah, took me a little time to figure it all out...

I'm with Chuckienut, same power to the center as to the sides ideally same amp but in the case of Emotiva multichannel amps, one channel of a multichannel amp can be nearly driven to the same power of it's corresponding monoblock if it's the only channel driven. And surround channels barely consume any power. So it would be safe a space efficient to get a multichannel for surrounds AND center, knowing the center will get most of the power. Bi-amping a center channel is overdoing it, just send a portion of the bass to the subs... So in your case I'd get an XPR-5 sorry for adding to it ;o)

I agree too about sending the same power to the centre channel as you do to the mains. This is especially true with the CC-690 as it is practically a studio 100 on its side. It's a BIG centre channel speaker. When watching a movie and something pans across the LCR, it just sounds right. I don't know, that's just my two cents (up here in Canada we got rid of the penny, so maybe that's just my 5 cents if I round it up.)
