Sheesh. So, I purchase a 103 a bit ago from Best Buy and it locked up constantly. It simply wouldn't play a disc or would freeze in the power up process. I took that unit back and got a new one. New unit worked well for a bit over a month and now I am experiencing the same problems as the first. I am in the process of helping my dad build a HT room in his game room. We purchased 2x 103. One for upstairs and one for the game room. I tested both units at his home for a couple of days just to see if he would have the same issues. None, they were working great. a couple days ago my dad calls me and tells me the OPPO keeps freezing and locking up. I went over swapped OPPO out for the other new one. Dad calls me OPPO is freezing and locking up. So now I have successfully encountered 4 OPPOs that frequently lock up or freeze and all purchased from Best Buy. I have done all necessary updates, talked to Oppo about settings just to make sure I hadn't enabled/disabled something silly. etc. etc. etc. I mean seriously!! What's the deal? Am I the only one? Is it isolated to best buy OPPOS? Are people simply just not saying theirs doesn't work perfectly because they spent so much on it and are ashamed? Is quality control for OPPO going down hill? Don't get me wrong I love it, but it is a PITA when you go to watch a movie and the disc tray wont eject. Then it takes 2 minutes to get it to power down and power back up. You get the disc in and it stays at loading, so you have to power down and power back on. These are the same issues my dad is having with his. I was about to purchase a new one for my living room at the new house, but am seriously reconsidering. Can someone recommend an inexpensive player that can play the lossless tracks?

Wow, that sure sucks. I have a 93, and occasionally, when I switch functions for the third or fourth time, the unit locks up. But the power up/down cycle for my unit is closer to 30 seconds than two minutes. I am sorry for your troubles!

Hmm.. sorry to hear about your issues with the Oppo 103. Knock on wood, I haven't had an issue with mine since I purchased it last year. I never knew that BestBuy was an authorized dealer... at least it's local and you don't have to ship them back and forth to Oppo. Running the latest firmware?

Yes, latest firmware and confirmed settings from OPPO.
I find it hard to believe it is isolated to the Best Buy units.

Any issues with heat? Sorry that I can't offer more insight. I just double checked where I bought mine and it was through Amazon. I'm sure you tried it, but was a factory reset performed after the firmware update or afterwards to see if that help alleviate the lock ups?

Have you contacted Oppo for support? They should be able to resolve your 103's issues.

The 103's are definitely not as stable as their older units. Mine freezes up or doesn't play disc's properly so I have to power cycle the unit a few times a week at least.

Mine has been fine other than the odd Netflix hiccup, otherwise I'm a happy camper.

I'll knock on wood as well . I have a 103 about a year old not one issue. I also have the 105 in another system about 5 months old and have had no problems. Bought both on amazon they were shipped from Oppo.

Yeah that sounds a little disheartening to say the least, as I never had an issue like that and like other have said I hope their QC isn't going to the toilet..I do recall having some odd discoloration, and pattern anomaly with an early version of the bd 83 years ago other than that I can't recall having any Oppo player issues.
Sorry to hear your troubles and can resolve these problems soon enough.

Resets and everything have been tried. It's very intermittent. It will play perfectly for a couple of weeks, just long enough for me to fall back in love with it, then it will crap in my oatmeal for a few days.
Just so strange that the same issue was over 4 units. This is why I called to confirm with Oppo it wasn't some sort of weird user error.
No heat problems. In fact most of the time it happens from a cold power on. Not all the time but mostly.
Can anyone recommend any players that support the lossless formats? At this rate I'm not going to purchase another Oppo for the movie room. Anyone have any experience with Xbox one? I could add one of those downstairs if it supports master or truehd.

I would say if you don't own any hi Def music in the 5.1 variety or dad laced files I wouldn't pay that much dough on a blu ray player just for movies. I have over 500 physical disc, and I don't see myself owning anything else than Oppo machine. I think most blu ray players are quite capable of playing movies well.

Wow, sorry to hear about your issues. My 93 has been trouble free for two years. Maybe, someday, I'll actually plug it in to the Internet and let it do an update. Then again maybe not. As long as it plays all of my discs, new and old, I'm going to leave well enough alone.

Wow, I'm stunned to hear about your misfortune with four(!) units. I bought a 103 for my parents about 14 months ago and it's been working great. No lockups or freezes, even with the latest firmware. As much as I love OPPO, I agree that it's probably not sensible for you to purchase another right now. Very bizarre nonetheless.

I bought my 103 directly from Oppo a little over 2 years ago. Initially it did have some lock-up problems and similar annoyances. But as they released new firmware it pretty much all cleared up. I tried using it as a "preamp" for connecting directly to my Comcast account, and initially it was a disaster, unable or difficult to get a video lock over HDMI, lots of video flashing; then with a firmware fix or two had nasty subwoofer slams as it tried to acquire HDMI from Comcast. Then a newer firmware release fixed it all, was super-fast at acquiring the Comcast HDMI signal and rock solid. I haven't been having any problems with the newest firmware. (Note, I don't use it as a pre-amp for Comcast, that was just testing ;-)) I have the 103 connected to a UMC-200. At like 2 years and a month it stopped reading discs, so even at one month just over the warranty period, they fixed it for free (I drove it up to their location as they are "local"); I believe the laser was actually dead. They recommend using a cleaner to avoid dust buildup, and there's precious little chance to get much dust in. Well, I always worry a bit about Best Buy, not always too happy to talk to their sales people, and there always seems to be "fine print". Have you absolutely verified that Best Buy sold you guaranteed new 103's and not refurb's? So, I purchase a 103 a bit ago from Best Buy and it locked up constantly. ... I am in the process of helping my dad build a HT room in his game room. We purchased 2x 103. One for upstairs and one for the game room. my 103 locks up every once in a while, Try turning off the BD-Live. The lockups that I experience usually happen on the java routine that is calling BD-Live content.

My 105 has locked up, but only on certain disks. I can't recall which they were, but they were DVD's and not BluRays. And, if I recall, they would start playing fine but if I fast forwarded too far, it would lock up. If I only fast forwarded a little no problem. And it was repeatable. It never happens on other disks...just a few old DVD's. To unlock it, I had to power down from the back switch and restart.
