Thanks all for responding. I finally went with a seperate setup of 2xXPA 1L and an XSP. will post a complete review in a week so I have some time to compare. From the way it is going since the last 2 weeks, be prepared for some surprises

Thank you all I did more reading after this discussion and finally pulled the trigger XSP-1 + 2xXPA-1L Can anyone now suggest a good balanced DAC? I have the Teac -UDH 01 dac already but that's burr brown chipset. Want to try a ESS Saber based DAC to compare. Leaning towards a Yulong saber D8. Any opinions or alternative recommendations please??? Maybe you have already decided this, but in case not here are my thoughts: Do you like the sound of the saber DAC? It does not have a neutral sound, so that seems to polarize peoples opinion of it. I prefer the sound of the dc-1 to the oppo bdp-105 (saber). I prefer the schiit gungnir DAC to the dc-1, but just slightly. I also have an xda-2, which does not sound as clean as the dc-1, but still has a more neutral balance than the bdp-105. Now, all that being said, I am not saying the saber sounds bad, and I listen to mine all the time, because it happens to be in the system I use the most. But based on sound alone I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the dc-1, and I've not heard anything comparable at its price point.

Hi rohrej I have the OPPO 103. So don't know how a Saber chip sound is Sorry, I should have mentioned, the saber DAC is known for a slightly emphasized or forward high end. It may complement speakers with a laid back or rolled off high end. With my current Salk speakers that have the raal ribbans and very flat extended high end I prefer a neutral sounding DAC. I haven't heard the m22s, so can't speak to that.

FWIW, I've heard the axiom m80's with an OPpo 105 coupled to an XSP-1 and the sound beat my DC-1 which I really like. Now there was a very nice powersound subwoofer in that oppo system but the real star was the XSP-1 oppo 105 coupling.

Thanks for that anecdote garbulky. I can't get the oppo 105 as I recently got the 103.
I also wanted to hear the sabre DAC. On the fence currently. Was on the dense for the DC-1 as well. From what you say, the Sabres sound better
I have 2 jamo subs so the M22 should be close to the M80 of I guess right
