Convenience and weight being a consideration, I would think that they would send an SA-250. After all, Emotiva has declared it to be their best sounding amplifier. (Better than an XPR-1? I don't make these claims. I just get to roll my eyes at them.)

Looks like Emotiva sent them an XPA-2.
I would have liked to see an XPR-2 - but then freight gets involved.

And heck, freight is a minor consideration when you look at the prices for some of those amps. $8500 for the Levinson, about the same for the Pass Labs.

My thinking is that Emotiva would have had to eat the freight for the "loaner" amp both ways.... For not much benefit. Heck, you could buy a few XPR-1s for the price of some of those.

But if Emotiva could get a little truthful press about the quality of their amps, especially in comparison to the "upper crust" mfgs, it could go a long way in sales. I get tired of the "for the price" phrase being thrown around by the press. I've been enjoying this hobby for 40 years. Emotiva doesn't need to apologize for their pricing.

Looks like Emotiva sent them an XPA-2. I would have liked to see an XPR-2 - but then freight gets involved. I agree, the cost of freight was probably the reason. It'll be a tough task for the XPA-2 but I'm rooting for it. I thought my XPA-2 was awesome. Maybe if they aren't cranking it at high wattages it'll do pretty well? The XPA amps aren't a slouch. I'm sure the results will be interesting.

I have the XPA-2 still (it's up for sale) and am running the XPR-2 right now. The XPA-2 is very good especially for the price and it can crank pretty good. The only issue is if they have pretty high end speakers (it's more noticeable), is that the top end is not as refined as the XPR-5 or XPR-2. I can't see the Mark Levinson not be as refined but it'll be interesting. The XPA-2 gen 2 is more refined than my old XPA-5 gen 1 though...so they have closed the gap.

Glad Emotiva could get involved. Just imagine if the XPA-2 sounds indistinguishable to the higher priced contenders. Serious cognitive dissonance for some folks.

The XPA amps are no slouch at all.. whatever Emo sends will at the least hold its own at this shootout - and we all know that there's still another step up from that to the XPR line.

Maybe the XPR amps are too new and they're just sending an older amp so it'll be on par with all of the other old high end amps they're testing?
:-)
The "shootout" really screams "few people getting together" more than a real bona fide comparison.

Woooo. Big event! Funny. I actually checked out the HTS thread again to see what they called it - figuring the title was the same. I bet the speaker cables are the real key to the event. Or maybe burn in times. You know. Better burn in the XPA-2 for maximum flamability or something.

Hopefully they do it right and use power cables from Coconut Audio, Miracle Whip Wraps from Reference Tweaks, and $10,000 Apple Watch Edition AudioQuest Ethernet cables. Otherwise, it's just a waste of everybody's time.
