Any Updates ? I am on the fence about new speakers. My B&W'804s are very good, but sometimes bright. I am sure some room updates will help, but new speakers ALWAYS help. You are the first reviewer I have ever heard say their B&W 800's are bright. I have a hard time believing it is the speaker and not some other "issue" with your system, ie. room, pre, amp, etc. I could be wrong though, of course. I agree. B&W 800's are the farthest speaker from bright I've ever heard. They are so far from bright that the word "dull" comes to mind. It's not really a good word to use, but they are way closer to dull than bright that's for sure. Super mellow and laid back.

How are you guys with the Pendragons liking what Dirac does for your Pens. I cant find any settings that sounds anywhere near as good as reference stereo with the Pens, I have them set to large they sound great with no processing, they are a little bass heavy. With the ERT 8.3's as mains Dirac was awesome.

I moved the first target to the Zero reference the second to plus 3.5 and the third to the zero line again. Sorry I don't have Dirac open to see the curve I made so I can't tell you the exact frequencies but I had issues with it being bass heavy and the voices were not as present as I liked. All good now.

If you never heard a pair of Pendragons you are in for a treat but I seriously recommend figuring out the right size seas/full size Pendragons for your room size because I spoke to many people before buying the seas Pendragons and I hear the bigger model gives much more powerful presentation than the seas version. For sure the seas version is big enough to provide a full range, powerful experiance in my 12x20 with 9.5 ft ceiling but if your room is bigger, than the full size may come in handy .as far as the sound/timbre you will find out for yourself but hearing a pair in the right size room WILL make a big difference with these things.

I ordered the Seas Pendragons mains and center channel and the Lore Mini monitors for surrounds for a 5.1 setup, the sub is an SVS PB-2000. I am in the process of finding an amp, so far I think the XPA-5 is a good match with headroom too spare. My question is, is the XPA-5 a good choice for these speakers? I am also looking at Outlaw Audio, Wyred 4 Sound and Rotel. Also do the Seas version come with a wider plinth for more stability for such a tall speaker? Secondly when you ordered from Tekton did Eric charge your credit card right away or when they shipped? I haven't been charged yet.. curious if something is wrong, I will call them soon though. Thanks for your input!

I traded a couple of emails with Eric about the Seas center, but no details (size, cost, time frame, etc.) yet. Once I hear back, I'll post the info for sure. Trying to convince the wife as these would be going in our living / theater room, but so far no joy. :( LuisV....just asking but would the Penns be a substitute for the B&W804's... Also your signature does not list what kind of 804's you have....I am curious since I have the 804S Thanks

My dragons were delivered today. I bought these second hand and they took a very long week to get here. When I walked in the front door the wife was there to greet me and followed me all the way out to the shed to get a pair of pliers (to loosen the spade lugs on the Thiels)and back to the media room and she was saying something. Anyways I opened the boxes and I have to say that the foam they use for packaging although adequate is very messy and leaves foam stuck to all the tweeters, drivers and is a real mess to clean up. The fit and finish is fair, not that it's bad but to give you an example the hardware used that the carpet spikes screw into is not as neatly done as other methods I have seen. It looks like they drill a hole in the bottom of the speaker and have a metal socket with a flange on it and it threads right into the MDF slightly bulging the MDF, then the carpet spikes screw into that. Anyway, I hooked these up to the XPA-3 and started my listening. Anytime, I listen to a different pair of speakers or a different system, I try to be very slow to say what is good or bad or what I like or don't like as these thoughts may change as you begin to grow with the system. Although some things are just a fact to anyone's ears, so that is what I will write about now. Explosive, Exciting, and BIG are what I would use to describe the difference between the Thiel 2.2 I was listening to and the Tekton Pendragons SE. The highs are very clean and detailed and seem to never sound strained in any music at any level, although they may be a tad polite. The excitement I was talking about I believe comes from the midrange down to 45HZ or so. When I ran the ARC room correction the mains played down to about 28HZ and the center was usable down to 45HZ. The center's sealed and the mains are ported. The tone and timbre are very well matched between the center/mains. I have to keep this short for now as I am getting ready for vacation for the next few days whoohoo. Can't wait to get back to play with them. Here are some pics. Very nice room...clean and welcoming!

I am sure some room updates will help, but new speakers ALWAYS help. :D If your 804's are to bright I suggest you invest into acoustic treatment for your walls before investing into new speakers. It's a simpler and cheaper fix.

Thanks for your input! I run a xpa3 with center and mains and there's plenty of power . Before the seas pendragon arrived I thought I might have a issue with the higher gain on the xpa3 Gen 1 causing a buzz noise with the higher sensitivity speakers but it's fine and glad to say there's no buzz at all. As far as sound it's great but ,my personal opinion is that the only thing I would like the xpa series amp to offer a blacker back round presentation ,not to say it's a issue but an improvement I may make (I'm thinking a amp from David belles). But the xpa does so well that I'm not in a hurry at all. No larger plinth and yes there very unstable . Bought mine second hand so can't help ya there.

I ended up getting a Wyred 4 sound MC 7150 its a 7ch x 150wpc @ 8ohm. Their specs seem a bit inflated and they don't really show the 4 ohm performance. I mostly looking for the best sound quality from top to bottom. Here's too hoping that this amp will deliver the performance. As for the no plinth I will probably then have to buy outriggers or make my own for the speakers then. Good thing is they will be on a hard surface, so no carpet to upset them.
