This is not Hotel California. Actually it sort of is if you consider: You can check-out any time you like, But you can never leave! "

My buddy collects imports, bootlegs and everything else related to live Zeppelin....probably my favorite band, yet possibly the worst live band for sound. Not sure I would be paying a premium for someone's Sony walkman recorded version of a twenty three minute version of Stairway... Different strokes for different folks!

Not sure what people expected when Page laid down six guitar tracks in the studio....(all buried in tape hiss might I add), and then went on the road as the solo guitarist. Hmm, I wonder why it doesn't sound as good...

REW
"REW is free room acoustics analysis software." I rest my case... REW to confirm, never to set my sub! Don't you see the irony?

No dirac, no atmos, no bs, perfect REW!! I've been at this long enough to trust my ears vs. software! REW does not work as well as Dirac. If all you want is frequency balance the yes, but Dirac does more than REW can. I have my preset 1 with REW sounding very much like the Dirac preset except for the mushy bass compared to Dirac.

The signal most important feature in a 2channel system is the ascoustic features in the room itself. For that matter even in a HT environment. Unfortunately people seem to overlook this feature. Second is speaker placement. There could be undreamed of performance lurking within your system, just waiting to be tapped! What's that you say, better sound than I have now? Most likely, yes. While some of you have been fastidious in your approach to speaker placement, the plain truth is that most of us do not know how (or do not take the time) to properly position our loudspeakers.. What's this outdated stuff. There are more vintage pieces of electronic equipment on the market now than every before. Didn't you get the memo? If you want sound quality and not so interested in features subscribe on purchasing a vintage receiver or pair of speakers...perhaps a pair of Dynaudio Gemini speakers! What tuner are we thinking of trashing? The Grace Design is American built, well constructed and it's foundation based on monitoring studio performances. It's internal design was center around 15 years of reference playback equipment. I don't understand why the center piece of this forum is always based on power when the focal point should instead be a well balanced system acoustically, correct speaker placement and a formidable delivery system such as the m920.
It's time to think out of the box and expand your horizons. Walking down the same road all the time only leads you to Deja vu.

Oh, no, I live in sonic nirvana with my 140wpc KT-120 monoblocks!! 140 WATTS !!!!!! How do you live with yourself, Bill that's just crazy that you think that's adequate power, I think you must be removed from the lounge all together, I mean really do your cones even move with such eenie weenie teenie bits of current, XPR-1's minimum is recommended muhahahahahahaha, kidding aside power is nice but room treatments and speakers are far higher up the chain on improving the SQ of one's system :P Chad I am running B&W804S speakers on 35watts per channel resulting in blissful clarity and realism....and NO DISTORTION!

I think room treatments get a pretty fair run on here, more than many other audio forums. Personally I don't do room treatments but I do select the furnishings with acoustics in mind. The current fashion trends result very much in poor acoustics, just the slap echo in some rooms alone is frightening. So it's an often raised subject. I'm not sure why any would be surprised that Emotiva products are often recommend on an Emotiva forum, who da thought Cheers Gary

For people who are in their 50's, 60's, the weakest link are their EARS!
No amount of room corrections can compensate for poor hearing. You can't trust your ears anymore.

Guys, guys let's agree the that the Solid State/ High Power/ HT crowd go on their high volume, ear destroying ways, and the more enlightened listen to music in a natural, pleasing way. See now here is a very common misconception that just because a system can be played at 10db above reference doesn't mean that it is.. I spend as much or more time placing my speakers and obsessively working at getting the room response that tickles my fancy as any member of this forum but people look at my Sig and think I'm an f'n idiot but my Diy speakers will hang with some very expensive boutique offerings.

I don't think "Solid State / High Power/ HT" crowd necessarily equates to "high volume, ear destroying ways" or that such equipment cannot also present music in a "natural, pleasing way." I would say the "enlightened" can be owners of any type of equipment who listen to music (or watch movies) for the sake of what they listen to or watch, and aren't smug snobs about their hobby and what they own. Some of the posts in this thread sound like they belong in a wine forum with people looking down their noses at screw top bottles, likening those to solid state wines.
