Sadly it's true!!! View Attachment I just just got off the phone with Emotiva,,,,,, I'm so sad I didn't even change my font color to Blue!! so sad!!! View AttachmentI wonder what they are doing....they discontinued the entry level UPA line, now the Elite series XPR line. Sounds like they are on the way out of the high end business. Making way for the new Walmart/Best Buy line maybe...

Wow! i bet they are gonna focus on mid-priced items only, keep the most profitable ones, use the money for the new processors and release class D stuff for retail. The reference line XPR was a steal IMHO

Just my personal opinion.... but me thinks we are all in store for a number of surprises and new directions when it comes to ol' blue. Some perhaps good, some perhaps disturbing to the old school core.... time will tell.

Making way for the new Walmart/Best Buy line maybe... Probably a Gen II version of the XPR line. It wouldn't make sense for them to completely discontinue the XPR amps then come out with the XMR-1. The UPA line I understand, those were loss leaders and probably wouldn't have survived the internet/retail hybrid business model. Maybe the McIntosh type meters will surface on the gen II versions!

Oh man. I don't understand why they discontinue both lines though without having an immediate replacement. I figured amps is their main seller...Maybe they are trying to move production back to US or scaling down to accomodate economies of scale for the department store model.

I don't understand removing the UPA line. This entry level introduced most buyers to the company, which in turn had the same customers eventually upgrading. If they needed to raise prices $50-100 per piece so be it but they still should offer an entry level line.

My understanding is that the XPA line is their biggest seller. I think and could be wrong, that many people figured they would spend the extra bucks and buy XPA. If that's the case, I understabd the discontinuation of that line, UPA. I'm sure the XPR line is niche, but it represents their top of the line effort and should really be kept. Maybe they are revamping or upgrading.
Has anyone asked that question? What is the replacement?

I'm not going to lie - I don't really have a need for any XPR amps, but the fact that I won't be able to get one kind of makes me want one even more!

If they needed to raise prices $50-100 per piece so be it but they still should offer an entry level line. I agree with the concept of having an entry level line and so did Emotiva. But back when they started the UPA line the cost to manufacture in China was much lower. They even had to revamp the line to a single amp module unit to sustain the line. It probably came to the point where there is nothing left to do but discontinue. Maybe the cost to build the XPR became prohibited expensive too compared to the sales volume. It's all relative but the XPR amps were an unbelievable bargain. If they don't come out with a gen 2, then their next top of the line amps will be much more expensive IMHO especially with the retail store model...probably wasn't worth selling the XPR to retail stores for 1/2 the retail price.

You would think that there would be some type of warning for the demise of the XPR line. Tomorrow morning this should turn into a hot discussion. I'm surprised that it wasn't mentioned in a pod cast... I imagine it's been a long time coming? Always kinda bummed when I learn about something that was the result of someone calling. So, Big Dan, what's the scoop? Is there going to be a similar replacement? Is this the end of the line for heavy A/B XPR type amps? Will there be a XPR Gen2?

Remember this is all about marketing and reinventing yourself every few years. When models slow in sales, they are replaced with others that will sell. I don't think there is a huge demand for 1000 wpc mono blocs and that is not what pays the bills. They are moving towards retail as well and thats a whole other marketing approach. I also think things are different at Emotiva. Dan and Lonnie are almost never in the forum any longer - I think they are moving in another direction.
I might be mistaken, but was there ever a comment about Emofest or lack thereof for the first time in 4-5 years? Seems like they let that very popular event slip into obscurity without so much as a whimper. That is very telling to me...
Hmmm...

Think about how much they could save on shipping if they go to a ICE based amp. Things are changing at Emotiva for sure I just hope these changes allow them to continue to give us great gear at great prices.

They might replace the reference line down the road with more expensive amps made in USA and with vu meters....

Did everyone here miss Novisnick's edit where he stated at the end of his post that, "I was told to check back at the new year about news of a possible replacement." ?
I personally doubt the "Reference" line of power amplifiers will be going away for very long. Just my take.

This is bad news, as I really love my XPR-5 powerhouse! I was hoping to get another someday when I 'go Atmos', but will just have to lay in an XPA instead then I guess, or see what new line Emo is alluding to down the road. In any case, my XPR-5 continues to soldier on perfectly...!
