I have one of the Sherbourn 7020's that went on sale through Ebay recently from the folks at Emotiva, Jade Design.
I am using it in the bedroom system for two channel use. I currently have a pair of Audioengine speakers hooked up. I'd prefer to go back to my old bookshelf Infinitys, but require an amp. I don't want an expensive amp, but something of quality. I missed out on the recent refurb X-100's at $135 unfortunately.
I noticed they now have a sale on the FLEX amp. I'm assuming I would just set the volume to max and use the preamp to control it.
Should I bite, or maybe just wait for a future sale on the X-100?
Thoughts?

Yes this is a good idea. The mini-x is not a shy amp and does have power. However depending on your volume levels it may not be enough. I've heard the mini-x hooked up to axioms in a large living room and didn't think gosh I wish there was more power.

I've used the 'kissin cousin' to the Flex (Sherbourn PA 2-50) to drive my song towers for about a week and found I don't need any more power than the flex amp provides. It drives the song towers to way higher spl than I'll ever listen to. To that end I bought a used Flex from a forum member. Look for one of the Sherbourn amps on ebay or accessories4less.com. They are currently out of stock but those amps trickle in once in a while and the price is right at $179 shipped. The only downside to the Sherbourn amp is the Phoenix style speaker connections which is why I wanted the Flex amp. The Phoenix connections are very secure but I like the banana plugs. And I have a box of them. Here's a Sherbourn amp for sale: emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/43577/fs-upa-200-pa2-sale
