Anyone using XPA-1L's with Goldenear's? I have the Triton 2's and SuperCenter xl with Supersat 50's for surrounds. I am wondering if the XPA-1L's for fronts and center would be any improvement over using an XPA-3.

My Def Techs are much like your Goldenears in that they have the powered subs built in. I went from a Denon receiver rated at 120wpc to the XPA-2, and heard ZERO difference. None. I believe that's because our speakers are fairly sensitive (mine are 92) and that most of an amps power is usually needed for the bass. We don't need to worry about bass, it's already covered. If you notice when people say it changed things immensely, they usually say something like, "Wow it made a huge difference, especially/mostly with the bass." Well with 100% certainty it will not make any difference with your bass. My general answer is, "very little" to no difference at all. I only kept my XPA-2 because I know it's superior in build quality, and I'm a man so I like to brag about having 300 wpc.

Funny thing about power needs. Overall, I think Bonzo is on to something. Running below clipping? tough to tell the difference between most amps. But the power thing? I'm not so sure. The 50:50 point for power where half is needed above and half Below, is about 350hz. Cutting the bass TO the main speakers and sending it to a sub? You can RAISE the 50:50 point. But bass below maybe 50hz? Doesnt' even take 10% of the total. Here's an article for those who want more information from a reliable source. Drop down to Section 1.3 for a closer look at this issue. sound.westhost.com/bi-amp.htm

Wow OP, that's exactly the setup I have right now. GoldenEar triton 2. XDA-3 for power, supersat xl for center. Only I have supersat 3's for SOR round (4 of them). I really got tempted to get the XPA--1L. If you'll read the stereophile review of the GoldenEars, he really was shocked at how amazing they sounded with his 2 watts(!) class-a amplifier. But, XOA-1L is dead, Jim . And there is no replacement.
