In the MIDI settings or in an iTunes add-on, most USB DACs appear by name whereas the XDA-2 G2 in my system only appears as "speaker." Furthermore, each time the XDA-2 is power cycled, neither MIDI and Amarra remember the DAC and it has to be selected again. The Mac and DAC are working perfectly sonically but I was spoiled with my previous DAC and how OS X/Amarra would remember the settings. Curious if anyone else has seen this issue and found a resolution. 10.9.5 (Mavericks) iTunes 11.4

I'm not going to add any specific information here, except to say that whether a computer remembers a given device when you power it on, or when the computer wakes from hibernation, is partly a matter of software and partly of hardware. Some of the hardware components used in the particular USB hub inside your computer determine how it differentiates when a USB device is unplugged and when it is powered down, and details like that. Therefore, you may find that even the same version of OS/X behaves slightly differently on a different hardware platform (so, for example, the several different generations and models of Mac Minis behave differently in this regard). What I'm saying is that I wouldn't necessarily expect your computer to act exactly the same way as someone else's unless both the version of the O/S you're running AND the hardware are identical. Thanks for chiming in Keith. Your info helps a great deal. The XDA-2 G2 replaced a wonderful Peachtree DAC and both OS X MIDI and Amarra identified it by brand name and would remember even after computer or DAC power cycled. Since the Mac Mini is set to never sleep, I may leave the XDA-2 powered on 24/7 for the convenience. I doubt the DAC pulls much electricity.

If I plug a USB hard drive directly into my Mini and then let it go to sleep, OS X gracefully ejects the drive and then remounts it when it wakes up. If I connect the same drive to my (always powered) USB 3 Hub (plugged into one of the Mini's USB ports), the drive does not eject properly when the Mini goes to sleep. I assume your XDA-2 is plugged directly into the Mini? I know he means the Mac internal hub, but this is a similar example.

XDA-2 is connected directly to the Mac Mini. In fact, it's the only USB port being used.
My music collection is on a firewire drive (after reading it is recommended to use only 1 USB port for dedicated music servers).
Also, the Mac Mini is headless (using an HDMI emulator) and no keyboard nor mouse are connected. How's that for OCD?
