According to the manual, "With AES/EBU, Optical, and Coax inputs, the VFD defaults to displaying the Volume, and displays the sample rate briefly when a new signal is received."
However, mine defaults to the sample rate instead of volume (I'm connected to the two opticals), and the sample rate is always 48KHZ, regardless of the source, from mp3s to high-rez downloads. What am I missing here?
FWIW, my input sources are a WDTV Live Hub and Roku 4.

You're not missing anything. It's how it works. My DC-1 does the same thing. It's a design misstep I think.
