I wanted to know why you thought the SL-1200 was better than the Pioneer - and the only thing that matters is how they sound. It doesn't seem like you have heard them. OK, thanks. I certainly have heard the Technics, and quite a lot actually, but the Pioneer is just... well, have a look at this video and then decide for yourself whether the Pioneer can be worth even *trying* to give a listen. Alright?

I would steer clear of the Pioneer PLX-1000. I'm a DJ and my Technics 1200's are from the early 1990's. Never had issues with either of them. They're built like a tank. The Pioneer doesn't have enough dampening material in it. You will get resonance from it.
I like Pioneer DJ products and have a Pioneer DJ mixer. Just that turntable is a total fail.
My 2 cents.
Good luck on the search.
