I'm totally stoked to see the EMP-1 getting Atmos. If the price point holds it will be a hell of a deal. I see some DIY Soundgroup coax atmos speakers in my future.

You are assuming that the price point is going to stay the same. Emotiva hasn't said that. The extra r&d will cost more no doubt but it will attract those who deem the xmc1 to be getting more exxy with each hdmi iteration ; and those who have no want for balanced 2ch throughput ; very appealing imo and the class d amps are an even better match size wise The clear demarcation between the mc700 and emp1 can only be a good thing for those who don't need atmos/dts-x ; though dirac is now out of the equation at the possible new price point which is not so good and I can sympathise ..

I'm not assuming the price will stay the same. That's what the meaning of "if" is. <sarc off>
Maybe there's cost savings if EMO can squeeze all the processing into one DSP. It'll be interesting to compare to the XMC-1 architecture once both products are released.

I would love to see the Emersa processor with Atmos, with a price with Dirac, and a price without. It would be an option for the ones who want to use (or already have) an miniDSP DDRC-88A.

I see the MC-700 has gone live, any info on the EMP-1, is it going to stay at the $899 price that was stated last December, I'm still waiting on this processor as I really want Dirac back in my setup and I just can't afford the XMC-1 again with the dollar being what it is and only suspected to get worse, I have no interest in Atmos and all that.

The Emersa pre-pro is going back to engineering. We don't think the market for a higher price non-Atmos piece is sufficient to make a business case for this model as it is.
We're scrapping the current design and once the XMC and RMC platforms are completed, we'll do a 5.1.2 version with Atmos and DTS-X, and of course an AVR version too. Should be around summer of 2017 for release.
The preamp, integrated, and power amps are set for early 2017 delivery.

Thank you Dan for this post! I had anticipated buying an EMP-1 for some time but I'm glad I went ahead and got an XMC-1 last month. I'm loving the new processor. Thanks for all you folks do! Kelly

Smart move! I liked the look of the processor though!

Should be around summer of 2017 for release. ... Sigh. Well, I guess you could say I have been on the fence about Atmos since it is unlikely I would attempt to implement it in my 5.1 system. Although I generally like to have the "latest" electronics in place "just in case" I need a feature, Atmos seemed less critical to consider. Was hoping for the EMP-1 this coming quarter, but if the "equivalent" with Atmos added now has to wait until after the RMC, who knows (!) I expect to move boldly into the 4K space in the first half of 2017, Oppo 203 no doubt first, then TV once the smoke clears from CES, and of course I really wanted a compatible (4K w/HDR) surround processor. So, I don't know what to do just yet. Does the new MC-700 (no Atmos, no Dirac, has PEQ) fill the bill? I want at least as good audio quality as my UMC-200, with a hope for "better" center channel. I guess I would have to consider what the upgraded XMC-1 enhancement 2 will do, though frighteningly quite(!!!!!) a bit chunk of change more! I don't like the idea of sending the Oppo video direct to the TV (bypassing the surround processor, and hence it's menus, etc.); I suppose that is a temporary workaround which my UMC-200 can handle. And wait... Dan says of course they will then do an AVR version too - an Audio/Video Receiver? Emotiva? The winds of change keep changing direction ;-)

I was so excited to hear of the EMP-1 and was looking forward to implementing a more affordable processor with Dirac into my system but I can imagine I'm one of the lesser few who doesn't care for Atmos and DTS-X, I'm still running 5.1 as my room just isn't big enough for more speakers, I guess the MiniDSP DDRC-88A might be a good option but it isn't the cheapest piece either, is the UFL program still effective on the $1999 sale price of the XMC-1 ?

I was wondering if it had an additional full range output for a headphone amp or a home theater receiver. Also, I know it has a high-pass filter but will low pass be included as well? 12 or 24db per octave? I'm wondering because currently I have a PT-100 and USP-1 (which I am trying to get computer noise out of). Would be great if I could consolidate into one unit.
