I would encourage you to get the very best L and R speakers you can afford and build from there. I know you said that you are only 30% music now but you would be amazed how quickly that will grow with a pair of nice sounding speakers. I would also encourage to look at used speakers to get the best speaker you can get. Oh and my vote is floorstands.

I have gone from 90% HT to 95% music since getting a better system. Previous was a set of Energy Take 5's and single sub, which grew to 2 subs, and then got turned into a 7.2 system with the re-introduction of my 30 year old Paradigm 7se's, all run off a Yamaha RXV-750. As of Christmas though, I have replaced the mains with a set of Polk Audio RTI-A9's driven by a set of Emotiva XPA-1Ls, which combined with my new shared-wall neighbour being my music-loving best friend of 35 years, has meant much more 2 channel stuff.
So if you've ever been a stereo listener, or music is a component of your life (in the car, at work, etc.), think about whether or not this could end up doing more 2 channel duty than you may realize.
Of course, you could also buy more gear later to satisfy the itch!

OH, and floor standing is my vote. Maybe there's bookshelf or sub/sat systems that can come close, but I always go back to floor standing. I like my music loud (sometimes) and even at 50 still listen to lots of Rock. Listening to Hedley very loud right now, at 30,000 feet over New Brunswick as I type this LOL.

Thanks to all that replied. I just ordered the pioneer speaker package with the BIC F12 sub. It comes with 2 bookshelfs 2 towers and a center So my plans are to do different variations to see how I will upgrade in the future. I will purchase another pair of bookshelf's in future to test four bookshelfs compared to two towers an two bookshelf's. I appreciate everyone's oppinions and help. I will give my opinion as soon as I can it will be a little bit for everything to come in and set up.

Towers all day everyday!!!!!!! If money is any factor in your decision remember to add in price of speaker stands for lil Ole bookshelves.
I have heard alot of bookshelf speakers and monitors. Monitors seem to have more bass at least the ones I heard. But I don't think any small speakers can out perform a tower. Just my opinion though. Sometimes bigger is better.
