Thanks. I can't imagine that a high end audio store would have sold those speakers with an inappropriate amplifier...besides it is the amplifier that is failing not the FOCALS. @90db the 70.1 should be fine. More than enough power. Thanks again.

If sensitivity, impednace and power were ALL their was to it, you'd probably be right. Factor in an amp with a simply INADEQUATE power supply and the fact that the speaker, if this measures the same as the OTHER Focal 826 (Stereophile tested the 'W' model) has a nice impedance dip or 2 AND at a large phase angle, and there 'ya go. An amps performance into a RESITOR is only about 20% of its reality. The ability of an amp to drive a real load is when you try the same power tests into various capacitive and inductive loads. Even some highly regarded amps do not do well when measured in this manner. Fortunately, a standarized test does exist. If more amps were tested by THIS method, fewer incapable amps would be sold. www.ap.com/kb/show/206

Integra = Onkyo. Friends don't let friends use Onkyo. Integra is a more elegant room heater than an Onkyo!

Just a quick thought, Onkyo/Integra are very hot running. Is there possibly a ventilation issue?

Onkyo makes great sounding and bang for the buck receiver/processors, they have fixed their reliability issues for years now. You'll have to go to the pro audio market to get similar bang for the buck and performance.

Just a quick thought, Onkyo/Integra are very hot running. Is there possibly a ventilation issue? Mark A class 'A' amp with insuffiecient heat sink will kill itself. What I suspect is going on with 'hot' amps is simply inadequate heatsink to power / bias relationship. Don't forget, that even an A/B amp willl have about 1/2 its power go up the smokestack in the form of HEAT.
