I've got the upgrade bug and the wife is about to devorce me hehe. Anyways recently I bought a denon x4200 atmos reciever and added a pair of ceiling speakers and bought a new pair of surrounds and moved the old ones up front for front wides. So currently I'm at 7.1.2. Runing a xpa-2 and 3 gen 1 and 2 channels on the reciever for the moment. I have a new pair of xpa-1Ls gen 1 coming tomorrow ($600 from emotiva ebay!) Yeah! Finally mono amps! So I'll run everything off seperates except the ceiling speakers that are rated at 150 watts. Reciever is rated at 125 watts per 2 channels. So the dilema.. Ive been thinking of the xpa-7. Can get it but only 1 year non transferable warranty. Run it all off the sep amps and sell the xpa 2 and 3. Prob is that I'll have a hard time fitting it under my tv shelf. I can but will only have like a inch and a half maybe of space above. Then the thought of, oh its a gen 2 and my xpa-1Ls are gen 1. The reciever should adjust that for me with its calibration right? Then thought of maybe just grab a xpa-5 gen 2 since it's new and has a 5 year warranty. Then I'll still be runing the ceiling speakers off the reciever. Then the thought of maybe keep the xpa-3 with the new xpa-5 and just use 4 channels off the 5. Have everything runing on seperates like fwr,Sr and tmr off the xpa-3 and have fwl,sl and tml off the 5 and FL and FR off the xpa-1ls. But then again the question of mixing gen 1 and 2? Or just leave it alone with the happy marriage of xpa-2 and 3 gen 1 and xpa-1L x2? Also another question about the xsp-1. Love to have one! Been dreaming of it for the past 4 years. Do I need one if I have a stealth dc-1? If I do run one in the future I connect the dc1 to the xsp-1 correct? Noticable improvement? Oh and one last question.. I plan on runing just the xpa-1Ls off xlr cables and the rest of the system with rca. Would that also cause a problem or should the reciever take care of any differences in levels calibrating? My system: Polk audio lism 705 up front Polk audio lism 706c center Polk audio lism 703 front wides Polk audio lism 702 surrounds Polk audio 900-ls middle top atmos speakers Sony 940c 75" uhd tv Denon x4200w reciever Samsung 8500 uhd player Polk audio 404b subwoofer (old and needs to be replaced) Emotiva stealth dc-1 Xpa-2 gen 1 Xpa-3 gen 1 Xpa-1L gen 1 x2 front mono blocks coming tomorrow!!

Lots of options; * sell the XPA-3 and get an XPA-5 Gen 1 or 2 (takes up the same space as you have now) * sell the XPA-2 and the XPA-3 and get an XPA-7 Gen 2 (saves one XPA space) * sell the XPA-2 and the XPA-3 and get an XPA-7 Gen 3 (also saves one XPA space and some weight) * sell the XPA-2 and the XPA-3 and get another 7 x XPA-1L's (nick would be impressed)
None of the above is a bad answer, all will give you the 2 extra channels of amplification and sound great. Pretty unlikely that anyone could tell the difference between them sound wise.
In regards to swapping to XLR's from RCA's for XPA-1L's, I had to rebalance the UMC-200 volumes on my system, which I did manually using my trusty SPL meter.
Cheers Gary

Thanks.. thought of selling xpa-3 and keeping xpa-2 and add the xpa-5 but paused on the thought of wiring them.
Xpa-5
C,sr,sl,tml(top middle left ceiling speaker),tmr.
Xpa-2 fwr,fwl
Mono blocks for front l,r
If I was to sell the xpa-2 since it would be a waste if not used for fronts I could use the extra channel on the xpa-3 to help seperate the channels.
Xpa-3
Fwl Sl Tml
Xpa-5
Fwr Sr Tmr C
Now that sounds more appealing kinda like mono blocks as the channels left and right are on different amps.
And the sale of the xpa-2 would help more with the purchase of the xpa-5 then the 3.
Though will the wife allow me to blow more money.. that's the issue.

Different amps sharing a power supply with other, possibly cross talked, channels. Nothing is gained my friend. Give a speaker its very own power supply and hear it sing!

As close as I can get.. no chance for 9 monoblocks! Not after buying new 5k tv,$400 uhd player,$1200 reciever and $1300 in speaker add ons. If we could I'd order a pair of xpa-1s and built a new audio cabnet to house it all! Hehe. Just thrilled to death there's enough room to place the new lightweight amps on ea side of my center speaker on the tv stand! Once I seen a spot for them I had to have thrm and could not pass them up at that price.

Ive reread your posts,,,,,,im still almost confused.
But i will say this MONOBLOCKS running XLR and the rest RCA, no problem!
For the DC-1 to really shine IN TWO CHANNEL, add the XSP-1 INHO
I've run an AVR, with the XSP-1 + DC-1 with MONOBLOCKS and its great, let the AVR run its amps for Atmos and you should be great!

Anyways what I was getting to with seperating the channels on different amps is that insted of a big power draw durring an explosion in a movie hitting both left and right surrounds or wides or atmos, it would only effect one power supply on a single amp giving it more power for that speaker insted of doubling it on 2 speakers for the channel.

My personal experience has been DC-1 thru XLR to XSP-1 thru XLR to mono amps provides me with the cleanest and fullest sound I have had in my setup so far. 30 years of various receivers, stereo amps and dac combos and so far this seems to sound the best to me. My budget hasn't allowed me to go as far as I would like to but given your choices with your DC-1 I highly recommend the XSP-1 balAnced setup to your Monoblocks via XLR. Enjoy the upgrades! All the best.

For music i will go for monoblocks for the L/R. +1 for the XSP-1 DC-1 combo, you will need to spend several times that combo price to get only a slight improvement.

Ok I see.. actually I thought the dc-1 and the xsp-1 did basicly the same thing for stereo music just for for digital and the other for analong and bass management?

The XPA 7 is not a good amp in my experience. XPA 2 and XPA 5 are great amps without any noise problems.

I've been cursed!! I just got my new xpa-1L amps from emotiva ebay site and I notice one box is a gen 2.. the sale was for gen1. The other box just a normal xpa-1L box. Was hoping it was just a damaged box and they swapped it.. open them up and what?? I get a new gen 2 which is sweet. And a used gen 1!!! And no acessery box and no power cord! Just a gen 1 manual. Oh my.. I waited all weekend for this! Over nighted xlr cables and a cmx-2 for nothing! You can't mix generations with mono blocks bought for music! First experiance buying from emotiva/ebay site.

Eclypse, I would send a PM or make a phone call directly to Big Dan in regards to the screw up. He is already dealing with other shipping issues and this will bring yet another unfortunate mis ship adventure to light. I think the more we report these goings on directly to Big Dan, the quicker they can find out the source of their problems.
I am glad to hear they promptly took care of you. Enjoy the new amps!

(Sorry...couldn't resist)
