Sorry Guys, I have waited long enough for an upgrade to my XMC-1 and now it looks like the update I want will be sometime next year. I'm jumping ship for up to date technology ..... (Why do I feel guilty?). I'll use my Emo Amps ..... but I'll have an XMC-1 collecting dust (along with my 2nd UMC-1) .... or, and this is hard to say - For Sale. Ouch, this is like breaking up ... but I'm outa here.

I've thought, many times, about buying an Anthem AVM60, but as long as I can effectively work around the temporary obsolescent shortcomings of the XMC-1, I will. Put your XMC-1 in the Emporium and enjoy your new ride...

I'm tossing up between an MC-700 (to keep 2 to 3 years) and a Marantz 7704 (to keep 4 to 6 years). The Anthem AVM60 processor is ludicrously expensive here (ie $5K). Cheers Gary

Cheers Gary I boxed up my XMC-1 a few months ago. I went with a Yamaha CX-A5100. It works great. I have no regrets. I haven't decided what to do with the XMC -1 yet. I may keep it a while longer and monitor the upgrade process. Joe

Just like doc, I'm not going anywhere, especially since I have easy work-arounds that are as simple as plugging my Harmony remote in my computer and setting up activities to easily change inputs and what not. Personally DIRAC and the Emotiva sound are the major factors for me, and IMO are way better than any room correction software/processor I've ever demoed, so the slight inconvenience of not having 4K video switching for a little while doesn't in the least bother me. I do however get it, and I've always been one of the first to say OPTIONS are a good thing and I continue to exercise them on a daily basis in every aspect of my life. If you just can't wait, exercise that option, move on and be happy, if you can wait I say just be patient as I believe the coming upgrades will be well worth the wait.

It's not far off now (in theory, obviously), get something to tide you over and then decide after the initial smoke clears (I would be amazed if there were no initial teething pains with the upgrades). Sell whichever one you decide to get rid of. The XMC is a superb piece of kit, though, which is no doubt why you haven't decided to part with it just yet.

Just like doc, I'm not going anywhere, especially since I have easy word-arounds that is as simple as plugging my Harmony remote in my computer and setting up activities to easily change inputs and what not. I'd be interested in how you achieve that? I've tried without any success. The problem is the Samsung TV needs CEC active to have ARC work and when the source is turned off (Cable box, Apple TV4K or Oppo 203 etc) CEC turns off the Samsung TV. If I turn the Samsung TV back on it turns the source back on, aaaaaaarg So whenever I switch sources I have to power everything down, in the right sequence order. Then power it back up selecting the appropriate source, again in the right sequence. There's no way that I can figure out how to switch sources with one button. I need 4 buttons for powering down (one for each source, in the right sequence). Then another 4 buttons for powering up (one for each source, in the right sequence). I could have 4 x 3 = 12 buttons for switching, with appropriate delays in between. None of the above have a WAF above Cheers Gary

7704 arrives on Monday ....... UDP-205 on Tuesday .... Apple TV 4K convinced me (even with the audio on fiber the video is worth it). The XMC-1 will still be here when or if the upgrade ever happens. There is a lot of 4K media ...... I’m not getting younger.

I don't use CEC and use optical out from my OLED to the XMC for 4K streams. My xbox-s is connected directly to the display but honestly comparing HDR games natively vs letting my OLED "add HDR" the differences are not that great while playing. The HDR on top of SDR process is exactly what the apple TV is doing now anyway and many current HDR displays can do this now. Nothing really new here. However I fully get that over powering OCD feeling when all of your gear isn't going to the AVR/P directly.

I'm using 4K/HDR/Dolby Vision with my XMC-1 - no problems.
I'm using my LG OLED TV as the video hub. I have audio from my Oppo DVD going to the XMC-1, audio from my 4K Roku to my XMC-1, audio from my DirecTV 4K client to my XMC-1, and the optical out from the TV to the XMC-1.
It works perfectly - I get the amazing video AND amazing audio.
I'll get the 4K board when it's out, but I'm not sweating it.

A quick example nick, the ATV4K only has one HDMI out (no optical, no coax, just one HDMI). I have tried a HDMI splitter with the input from the ATV4K and one output to the Samsung TV and one to the UMC-200. Keeping in mind that I have 5 metres between the TV and the UMC-200. I get either audio break up (with the ATV4K next to the TV) or picture break up (with the ATV4K next to the UMC-200). The only solution that works is using the ARC from the Samsung TV to the UMC-200. Good video and good audio. I don't need CEC, I don't want CEC, I hate CEC, I've never been able to get CEC working properly with any of my gear, now or in the past, I'd turn it off but with the Samsung TV , to get ARC to work, I have to have CEC turned on. That's just how It is Cheers Gary

The 203 has 2 X HDMI outlets so it's easy, but both the ATV4K and the cable box only have one HDMI output (each) so I'd need 2 splitters. That together with the 5 metres between the TV and the UMC-200 means either audio or video drop outs. The only thing that avoids the drop outs is ARC from the TV. That means CEC which adds a second, more painful, layer to the fiddling around when swapping sources. If it was a month or so I could live with it (more accurately the boss could live with it) but it's already been 4 months with maybe 5 more months to go (ie; end of Q1 2018). It could even be longer than that, no one knows. Cheers Gary

To be honest, if a movie isn't playing thru my 203, I don't care about the lossless audio.
Keep in mind that you can connect your ATV4 to your 203's input HDMI and get the audio to the XMC-1 that way.
My "Cable Box" is DirecTV, who only does DD 5.1 at this time, so it works fine.

Keep in mind that you can connect your ATV4 to your 203's input HDMI and get the audio to the XMC-1 that way. The would solve one of the source problems but not the others. Did I read you description right in that you aren't doing that with one of your sources, if so why not? Cheers Gary

So I use my TV or Samsung 4K player. 👍
