Just plugged in my airmotiv 5s, but the used DAC I got doesn't work.
If I break in the speakers without a DAC will it precondition the speakers to not define sounds as well? I mean, I'm sure the definition will be much better with a DAC. Right now am listening to loud heavy punk, but want to hear high definitions on jazz and classical vocals later.

No it won't precondition your speakers to not defines sounds as well. Your speakers will play what they're fed. When you get the DAC you like they'll show its sonic signature.

No it won't. You're fine. Don't worry about break in. If the airmotivs have break in it shall break in naturally over time.

Try to get the tweeters at eye level or at least pointed towards ear level.

Very happy here. Haven't set the speakers yet- just finished building a table so I can put all the crap on my desk on it and then set the speakers right. Have to put a finish on it... BUT, even without a DAC or the right set up I am LOVING it! Just played Dilly Dally and Metz and am in 7th heaven. Have lived too long with $5 yard sale speakers. Regular stereo is in storage right now. No room...
