Our fearless moderator, LCSeminole, recently posted a thread about his visit to Emotiva. One of his pictures was a screen shot of a new processor back panel. I find the lack of unbalanced RCA outputs interesting.

Interestingly Zone 2 has RCA outputs.
And what about all of those Height channels. Can we say ATMOS!!
Now if we could assign the three Sub outputs as Right Front Low Frequencies, Left Front Low Frequencies, and Effects (channel).

Three sub outputs should be useful to implement Dirac Unison.

Jibes well with the 16ch fully balanced input to output circuitry and a master stroke imo leaving out the unbalanced outputs as a consequence ; only so much back panel space and the circuitry inside isnt unbalanced presumably .. Good to see the legacy rca's get pared down with the multichannel analogs gone and just zone 2 by the looks When other makes include superfluous audio/video jacks its nice to see.

I find the lack of unbalanced RCA outputs interesting. I tend not to use RCA when XLR is available, even when I am connecting to another RCA device. Short XLR to RCA adapter cables are cheap on Amazon and the XLR connecter is far more robust than RCA. Unless done the way RCAs are done with Emotivas better gear, RCA connectors always feel one good pull from breaking.

Seems like a lot of optical and coax inputs. Maybe there are people out there connecting 4 devices using that protocol but I do question it.

"XLR connecter is far more robust than RCA. Unless done the way RCAs are done with Emotivas better gear, RCA connectors always feel one good pull from breaking." Ha ha NO! Different....yes of course. More robust? Not a chance of this. Both types have advantage and disadvantage. If you are indeed "pulling" RCA'S out then, well..... I've got tons of RCA'S which are over 25 years old and in perfect condition. Bill

I would just say that with limited real estate you have to make choices, you can make a balanced signal unbalanced, but can't go the other way. Plus you're paying extra for 16 fully balanced channels.

Bill Turn or pull, unless they are secured to the chassis - the Tiffany styled type, I have not found RCA connectors to be sturdy, and certainly not comparable to XLR connectors. (Glad to hear you have better experience, I have to admit that I do not currently have any 25 year old equipment in use. I had an amp about that old once but a few of the RCA connectors failed and it was not worth fixing.)

Good to see the legacy rca's get pared down with the multichannel analogs gone and just zone 2 by the looks When other makes include superfluous audio/video jacks its nice to see. I could not disagree with you more. We are are the exact far ends of the spectrum on what we want. I'm glad someone started this thread from that picture, because when I saw it the other day I was seriously disappointed. I considered posting to the other thread but figured I'd just get bashed for being negative. From the looks of things, this processor will never be for me. This was touted as the monster end all of all processors, and from the usual Emotiva price point, for $5000+ it should be. For me that means lots of options, which means all kinds of inputs, and that most certainly means RCA analog, both audio and video. I want a monster processor to have it all, and this thing falls short for me. It certainly falls short of my thoughts and expectations of what this unit would be. I'm sure the answer from Emotiva will come in the form of "buy yourself an RCA switcher, or Component/Composite video to HDMI converter", which are viable options of course. Viable, but not as convenient, and since most of these types of devices are of questionable quality, certainly adds the possibility for lesser sound/video quality. Me being obstinate? What if I spin that argument around and said drop half the HDMI connections and get an HDMI switcher? For a monster processor, people would be pissed. So I think I'm allowed to be disappointed and state it as such here. And please don't try to say HDMI is now and the future and RCA is old and out dated. Hogwash. I'd bet my good old RCA analogs will be working just fine 5 years from now. Try saying when HDMI is up to 3.2a by then. When you say "others include superfluous audio/video jacks," I think you are wrong here, because the trend is the opposite for sure. Please point me to a newer processor with this. Or at least compare a company's newest design to one of just a few years ago. The trend is to loose input flexibility, not add it. Now, if Emotiva would just make this taller to gain some space (I'm not sure why an audio/video-phile wanting an end all beast of processors would worry about and inch more of space), and add some more RCA analog inputs, as well and some more XLR balanced inputs, then I'd probably be singing a different tune. I praise them profusely for all the HDMI inputs, all the digital inputs (and even higher praise for the digital outputs), but I'm sorry, this proposed picture falls short of a mega processor in my book. I hope the product they are actually working on is different, or they can count me out.

Question: What are the drawbacks using balanced to RCA cables (balanced on one end and RCA on other end)?

lets not forget, he could use just the adapter so as to continue using his own cables.

Sorry....my bad you were speaking of the chassis hardware not cables and I was sleeping😡 One of those things which stood out on my XMC1 are those RCA jacks. They are the most robust that I have ever seen on any piece of hardware. I use only one of the XLR jacks for the subwoofer.

pardon my ignorance, but why have three sub out's? I run four subs and three just seems like an odd number. I figure you can double up a set and have the other two independent?

That looks like a picture of a screen shot, not an actual unit.
RCA to XLR adapters are cheap, by the way.
I also have 4 subs, so the 3 sub outs is mystifying. Must have something to do with the chip limitations.

Yep, we were aware of the image of a screen shot, still looks very enticing.

Bonzo I hate to say this but legacy video connections are ancient. It's time to retire it. I'm surprised they even included multichannel analog inputs.

How about if Emotiva came up with a companion piece - sort of how the SP-1 relates to the DC-1? The companion box could have a kick butt phono preamp, a bunch of analog inputs, and video conversion capability. Software would make it appear as an extension of the RMC-1. Communication would be via the balanced inputs and one of the HDMI inputs on the RMC-1. Control would happen over ethernet and be completely transparent to the user.
