I ordered mine for pickup at their facility - but I have to wait for their email that says I can come by ;-( Was hoping to pop up there this afternoon, but hopefully I can head up there tomorrow (Tuesday). Well... picked up a few 4K movies at Best Buy in the meantime ;-)

For me I have no plans to buy a 4K-capable TV for probably the next 3-5 years. But it might make sense to get a 4K-capable player so I can start buying the higher resolution media ...

Done! I'm all oppo'ed out, and ready to rock, although I do not even have any native UHD display yet, since I am waiting for a certain LG Oled 4k unit to appear within my budgetary "firing range" before pulling the trigger. So basically, I am getting this, supposedly for Christmas, but without any display to watch any real 4k until sometime next year. Yeah, that sound nuts, but I couldn't help myself: blame it on my very nutty A/V "enthusiast" hobby
PS: It has got to count as some form of "consolation" that I still have the 103 to handle all things 1080p, but still...

I was quite surprised, pleasantly surprised to see the amount of UHD material available. That changes my thoughts and ambitions about the whole UHD thingy.

Porn ? We didn't even get to see her back side. Lol 😜 Well, there was already one of those on the site already Anyhoo... Quick words on a little testing. Not an ideal environment at my computer desk but I just wanted to run the unit through some paces to see how it worked. I tested three new UHD (with HDR) movies, though my 43" Sony 4K TV-as-PC-monitor is a 2015 model without HDR, and also threw on a regular Blu-ray of Life of Pi. The latter was gorgeous on regular HD TV and it still is. Mind you I'm sitting about 3 feet from the screen, but all of these movies had clear stable images. Obviously the better shot movies will look that way (Life of Pi, Deadpool 4K). Star Trek Beyond 4K and Independence Day Resurgence 4K varied depending on the scenes. I only watched a little bit of each. There was NO glitching whatsoever in operating the BDP-203. In spite of numerous patches to the prior model BDP-103, that one still freezes up now and then. No such thing here. Movie start-up was fairly quick, and hey - no trailers for other movies I ran the 203 direct to the amp (UPA-500) and into the Stealth-6 front speakers, so was using the 203's decoding and speaker level/distance/crossover controls. The UPA-500 is running the center and surrounds and also an older but efficient 10" passive SW on two of the channels. I'm not sure the lack of smart apps (Netflix et. al.) was a good idea, though I suspect that helped keep the price down. I would much rather have the audio/video for such coming from external to the TV so it goes full-bore audio into the surround processor. Otherwise you have to depend on one's TV sending out the audio unchanged (all too often you only get stereo out of the toslink from the TV), or need another external device with the Netflix et. al. apps.

My Samsung 8000 series TV has apps included that support 4K Netflix, Amazon Prime 4K, and a few other services. I am also running an Apple TV 4 for music and cable channel apps. I see no real need for apps on this BD player for me. I do hope it can play my .wav ripped CD's off a hard drive like my 103 can. If not my Apple TV can pull them from my network.
