My UMC-1 died a few months ago (no audio via HDMI) so I called Emo service. They said it's not worth fixing - so I bought an old Integra pre-pro after seeing the newest Emo processor is mega-bucks and has more inputs and outputs than a sane person wants to deal with. Seriously people still want analog inputs?
I see mention of Emersa and BasX - what's the difference between the two? Is there a nice comparison chart for the features among these units? And when will they be available?

And when will they be available? Think of BasX as replacement for the ultra series. Emersa is a line of products intended for folks who want smaller, simpler to use gear that is still great sound. There are many technology differences. BasX uses traditional topology amps, and has a range of 2 channel options for preamps and/or integrated amps. And, there is a multichannel preamp/processor out that is a lot like the UMC and even is Cirrus based. And, most is available now to buy. Emersa is very different...class D amps, TI-based multichannel preamp/processor, etc. No Emersa are in production yet. Mark

Thanks - just by looking at them I like the BasX - has a volume knob!
As far as all the TI/Cirrus/Dirac/EmoQ mumbo jumbo - not sure that it really makes much difference to me for the 2 or 3 hours a week I use it. Just want a simple, reliable, durable 7.1 with HDMI switching.
Browsed some of the recommended threads and then some. Good to see Mr. Dan and Mr. Lonnie still around - I met them at the first Expona in Jacksonville when they were birthing the UMC-1. Looks like they've done well and expanded their product line. The direction they're going with the simplified pre-pros is great since I think there is a need.
Can't wait to Ebay this dinosaur of an Integra out of my stand. Way too many inputs/zones/buttons.
