Hi Dan, thank you for the advice! I thought selecting the correct mic and also changing the calibration file in the DIRAC-software to the calibration file I have for my mic (90°) would be enough. If this is not the case, I will contact Keith / Lonnie. Best regards Fabian There are multiple accounts of bass being killed by Dirac. This thread has info and there are alternate calibration files for the Emotiva mic linked in Ansat's signature that address this problem. Adding a house curve in Dirac Full will also help. Happy tweaking.

Today I gave DIRAC its second chance and this time the results are really good so far.
So what did I do different than the first time? 3 things:
1) As stated before my FL, C, FR are fully active and developed by myself. So I already had many options to tune the system to the room. Therefore I remodeled my house curve in the DIRAC full filter designer as the target curve (+5-6dB below 120Hz, linear upwards)
2) I corrected only up to about 1,5kHz. I tested a lot already and to my ears less is more regarding corrections in the hifh frequency range.
3) I compared Emotivas mic against my calibrated mic in REW and then again compared the results against the generic Emotiva calibration file. Interestingly the Emotiva mic without calibration only has a delta of maximum 0,5dB down to 20hz compared to the calibrated mic - so in fact the generic calibration file from Emotiva makes things a lot worse in case of my XMC-1 mic! Also my XMC-1 mic starts to stray already from about 1kHz upwards up to a delta of 10dB. The generic calibration file also doesn´t really fit here. So I created my own calibration file based on my REW measurements and used this in DIRAC with the XMC-1 mic.
The results are really good this time. In fact DIRAC only did 2 more major corrections compared to my manual adjustmens based on averaged measurements in REW (I do room correction manually in a very similar way regarding the measurement points). DIRAC filled up 2 holes were I chickened out and it also corrected the bass of my speakers more below their crossover point (60Hz 24dB). As a result deep male voices improved and the summed bass response of my subs and speakers is tighter.
I am pleased so far and also am able to play really loud with DIRAC, not like some other users here reported. Also DIRAC doesn´t clip my DSPs anymore, only with e.g. Rammstein at +10dB I sometimes see a "red flash" - but I can easily adjust my gain structure in the chain - and in fact at that level my ears are getting fatigued after about 5 minutes...
Best regards
Fabian

I've bought a *LOT* of Emotiva products over the years (and I'm buying more with the new Airmotiv Subwoofers) - including a couple of XMC-1's. Whilst I've had a single problem with one of the more complex products after some months of use (and Emotiva tech support quickly and efficiently replaced it) they *never* turn up with quality problems from the factory. Every single Emotiva product I've received has been extremely well packed, and extremely well built. They look beautiful out of the box and sound even better :-). The problem reported here is simply not typical in my experience.

Did you look at the creation date of the thread and read through it? I even changed the name of the thread because this topic (build quality) is finished for me now. I just wanted to continue reporting about my experiences, which I think could be valuable for the one or other user regarding DIRAC. So no need to rush to Emotivas defense anymore...

Missed the change of subject :-). Don't do that though please, it's very confusing. Please start a new thread if you want to discuss DIRAC issues - remember the old thread name still shows up in the "Latest Posts".
