I have been thinking of getting some headphones, and I have never owned any...so I know nothing. Thoughts on the HD 650's? I would be listening via my PC, my tablet, or to one of my systems using the headphone out from a DC-1, a LH Labs Geeks Pulse Infinity, or my XMC-1.
I have a chance to get a good deal, so wanting to learn quickly.

I have the 650's and love them. They have a warmer sound signature and I'd say they need a separate headphone amp to be at their best.

Might just get them and worry about another small headphone amp later. Mark

Honestly, sorry Ricky. You can do much better for the price, assuming you aren't getting a slamming deal.
However, this is personal. I find all Senns to be wayyyy to bright and when something is cupping your ears, fatigue sets in. They have a nice soundstage, but I would say that's about it.
I'd look into Audeze. A bit more $$, but pound for pound the LCD2 is the best set I've heard. They do need an amp, but I think 90% do.
Just my .02

I've read that the 700's are closer to the 600's than the 800'.

Just my .02 That's odd because I've found Senns to be on the warmer side compared to the other ones I've heard. Grados are very bright and get to be fatiguing. AKG and Beyerdynamic also brighter than the Senn's. I've never heard Audeze, though. Most definitely it does pay to try different headphones because they do vary quite a bit.

$399 on Massdrop right now. That's a great price but not as great as the MRSP suggest. Incidentally, I bought a brand new pair for CHF 389 the other day. My first impression is that they sound very good and are extremely comfortable. Lots of people say they need several hundreds hours of break-in, so they should improve and sound even better. I certainly recommend them.

I did just find them on Amazon for $428 also. Tempting to do the Massdrop still.

They do say it is better than the HD600 which imo is pretty impressive. If you can swing the HD800 though that's supposed to be pretty insane.

IIMHO, the cheaper Grados are very bright but the RS1 & 2 are not overly bright, albeit brighter than most Sennheisers I've heard, including the HD 700 (so far).

Upon further review by the replay official, Amazon has the 650's for $313 and the 700's for $428. Any thoughts on what the sonic difference are?
