Hi,
I'm greatly enjoying music through my new TA-100, primarily from "redbook" audio CDs played on my Sony BDP-S6500, but when I try to watch a video (DVD or Blu-ray), the sound will only come out of the tinny little speakers on the TV set. I'm aware of the warning in the TA-100 manual re: "The digital inputs on the BasX TA-100 accept stereo digital audio signals; they do not accept digitally encoded surround sound like DTS or Dolby Digital. Some digital sources may need to be specifically configured to output a stereo signal." I've gone into the disc player setup and have set all audio settings to stereo that may be so set, but still no luck.
I suspect that the connections are the problems. Disregarding the LAN output on the disc player for the moment (it is not connected to any computer system), there are only two outs on the Sony BDP-S6500, an HDMI and a coax. The HDMI is presently connected to the TV (it's gotta get the video signal from somewhere), and the coax is connected to the TA-100. Obviously the audio signal is being sent to the preamp from the player when there is only an audio signal on the disc, but as soon as it senses "aha--we've got a video source here!," the HDMI connection seems to override everything else.
In the disc player's manual, it shows that when you want to connect a TV to an "AV amplifier (receiver)," you need to connect an HDMI cable to the amplifier, and then run a second HDMI to the TV--no coax involved. This isn't possible with the TA-100, at least not with the digital ins/outs provided on it. Anyone see any way around this so that I can get good-quality sound from my videodiscs through my Emotiva/ELAC setup? I'm thinking I'll probably need a converter/adapter to take the digital signal from the HDMI out on the disc player and split it up into analog L/R audio and separate video signals using RCA cables to connect audio & video separately to the TA-100 and the TV separately--if that's even possible.
Or do I just need to buy a different disc player?
Thanks for your help, folks.
