It looks to me that it's only 4K capable vs my umc200. My projector is still 1080p and probably will be for at least 2 more years. Is there something else I'm missing?

I've been asking myself the same question. As well as 4K, it does have superior PEQ capabilities, especially for the subwoofer. But my room is pretty good acoustically and I've been able to achieve a more than satisfactory result. The MC-700 does have upgradable HDMI boards which would mean HDMi 2.0a and HDCP updates will be available for some time. Personally when I upgrade to 4K I'll be going HDR (or equivalent) so I'm going to stick with the UMC-200 for a while longer.
Cheers Gary

I'm keeping my 1080p plasma I don't use the peq or emoq. I do like the volume knob but not having 7.1 inputs is a decision breaker.

I have tried the 7.1 analogue inputs and found them not to contribute anything, hence no longer used. So no loss there. Cheers Gary

I'm going to remain in 1080p until my plasma is end-of-mission so I'll skip the MC-700.
The only feature for which I long in the UMC-200 is the physical volume knob. Otherwise, I'm still amazed at the performance.

Two things are making me consider the upgrade. First, is the additional HDMI inputs. Second, my UMC-200 does have the occasional audio dropouts that others have documented.

My guess would be the difference is going to be sonically, not features. Newer DAC and processing tech that results in an improvement in the overall sound quality, both 2 channel and surround. How much of an improvement and worth the cost of upgrading will be up to the individual. Probably improved HDMI handshaking as well.

Hi kids, I need to apologize for some confusion regarding the HDMI capabilities on the MC-700.
The MC-700 DOES support HDR on three of its HDCP 2.2 enabled inputs as originally stated. The webpage is being correct as I type this.
We reacted too quickly to some incorrect info. from an S.I. source and some messed up testing we here that has turned out to be incorrect...
We support HDR10 on the MC-700.
Cheers, Dig Dan

Keep the UMC-200 until the 4k wars end.......... Agree. Everything video seems to be fluid right now. "Now" Video has been in chaos for years, some would say decades. A new version of HDMI appears what seems like monthly. Constantly moving HDCP standards, with conflicting announcements. Manufacturers that don't seem to be able to agree on anything, that every other week come out with something that they claim will "revolutionise what we watch". I can almost guarantee that sometime this week I'll read a review where Sony, Samsung, LG, Panasonic et al will claim that all the other panels are out of date due to their ground breaking new technology. Is it any wonder that the average consumer doesn't know which way to jump, what to spend their hard earned on. Cheers Gary

They change the standards all the time. All HT equipment is basically obsolete in 5 years. This is where they screw you. They keep changing the standards and you keep on having to buy new HT receivers and Pre-amp.
I bought a B&K Ref 10 processor for almost $2k when it was released in the mid 1990s. It processing capability- Dolby Digital and Pro Logic. It video was Composite and S-Video. It actually has an input labeled LD - Laser Disc.
So it has been 20 years. The processor still works great, but for most would be obsolete. What all has changed? Everything except the PCM 2 channel standard.
When you are ready to buy HT items just do it. There is always a new video or sound codec around the corner.
Just for reference on the video side we have seen since Laser Disc: DVD, HD-DVD, Blue Ray, now 4K Blue Ray, and add streaming in there.
On the video side we have gone 780i, 780p, 1080i, 1080p and 4K
When you are ready just jump in and realize that it will be obsolete soon.
