PS4 HDMI to XMC-1
Input setup 5.1 mode set to "auto"
The XMC display just reads "surround"
Any idea why dialog is not going through the center?
This is true using Netflix, HULU, etc. Thanks

You input on the XMC-1 is setup properly, but is your Playstation setup to output multi-channel? Check and see if you can set it to Bitstream.

Tried Bitstream (Dolby) on the PS4, no change.
Everything was fine on my UMC, weird.
Any other ideas?

If you go into the menu of the XMC-1 do you happen to have the center speaker set to NO or None? Do you have another source you can test to see if the issue persists.

Center set to small, EQ is Dirac.
If I go into levels I can play test tones through each and it is proper.

Tried setting the PS4 to Bitstream (DTS) and no change. Are you accessing Netflix through the Playstation? If so, you need to test a completely different source such as a cable box or Blu-ray player and see if you have the same issue.

Looks like most of the issue is with the installed apps. Figured out Netflix, working through the others. HBOGO I am not finding any audio settings for, it is just 2.1 it seems.
Thanks

After much time searching and looking for settings, turns out HBO Go and Hulu don't stream in anything more than 2 channel! How is that even possible? Not sure if this is just on the PS4 or all around...sad

Hulu absolutely does not support 5.1. HBO is odd. There are still plenty of soundtracks that are 4.1 for some reason too in games.

No PS4 I should just get rid of it and buy the new Oppo 203 + a streaming player (Roku or Fire Stick). I don't really game and the PS4 has been very disappointing as a media center, doesn't even play CD's for crying out loud.

If you don't game, what persuaded you to go PS4 with all the other options out there?

I had a PS3 which was a pretty good media center, my gf bought the PS4 for xmas a couple years ago. She thought it would be an upgrade, heart was in the right place.
How come the display of the XMC-1 doesn't say the mode (Dolby 5.1 or DTSHD, etc). It always just says "surround" which tells me nothing and is obviously not true if I'm only getting stereo in a lot of these apps.

Just curious, do you still have the same girlfriend? No further questions at this time.

The PS4 will persistently send the same signal in certain situations. For example, my PS4 will always send a DTS signal, regardless if there's a disc with DTS format on the disc. Check your PS4 settings, not the XMC-1.
