I am thinking about ordering the XMC-1 to go with my BasX A-700 amp and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on how these two components would pair. I know the BasX amp does not have balanced inputs and I read an article on Secrets website by David Rich where he states"If you have a power amp with only RCA inputs, the performance of the XMC-1 will decline." Any thoughts on this? By the way, I love my new BasX amp and it sounds excellent to me. Thanks.

If you like your A-700 now just wait until you hook it to an XMC-1. It will only get better Matt. RCA's do just as good as XLR. This is bull crap. "If you have a power amp with only RCA inputs, the performance of the XMC-1 will decline."

Otherwise the only difference will be XLR cables have a higher gain (about 6 db) than do RCA's. And even so, it is not the performance of the XMC-1 that declines, it is the performance of the cables that decline. That reviewer needs to do his homework.

RCA doesn't support Full Differential-Balance as XMC-1 L,R channels are designed for. Also, XLR will give you better VMRS/Gain compare to RCA...in addition to the noise immunity of XLR cables.
But can't beat the value of the BasX A-700. I am sure it would still sound great.

Thanks Axis, monkumonku and goodfellas27 for your input. That makes me feel very good about my decision to order the XMC-1.

You're not going to hear a difference between the balanced and the unbalanced if the amp the XMC was connected to had both and the distances were normal.
I have an XMC-1 temporarily paired with a UPA-700 which is comparable to the BasX; they sound great and so will your proposed setup.
